Haha I guess I’m not that fancy. My ideal food would be an Italian buffet. Had we stuck with our original plan (getting married where FI’s family is from), we would have done this.

Other than that, I love decadent macaroni and cheese, fancy french fries with malt vinegar, crab cakes or baguette chips with spicy crab dip, hasselback potatoes or scalloped potatoes with gruyere (or FFIL’s amazing cheesey, calorie-laden mashies), quiches, caprese skewers, fresh baked bread with herb and oil dip, fancy sliders, tomato soup shooters with grilled cheese bites (having been to a wedding where these were done: make sure there’s enough soup for everyone and make sure they start making the grilled cheeses EARLY and that the cheese is actually melted).

@Rachel631:  Oh, it’s catching up with me. I do Jillian Michaels yoga 4-5x a week and usually eat pretty well, but carbs are definitely my downfall. And yes, I consider Italian to be pastas with red sauce or alfredo sauce, chicken dishes with those sauces, lots of garlic, etc. Then again, I’ve never been to Italy.

Macaroni and cheese with lobster! Or crab alfredo. A nice, thick/creamy alfredo pasta with crab. Yummm.

Evening buffet is usually the “second” meal if you’re doing a traditional British-style wedding, so I’d go more for the small bites and savories. Some suggestions:

-Empanadas, you can have all kinds of fillings, maybe a green chile chicken or a mole poblano

-Mini baked Brie with currants or figs

-Charcuterie trays

-blue cheese stuffed olives

-stuffed mushrooms (I’d stuff them with smoked mozzarella and minced mushroom/duxelles if I were cooking)

-grilled polenta

-roasted peppers stuffed with goat cheese

Roasted Figs with goat cheese, manchego cheese (and other cheeses!), portabello mushroom caps, scallops, crab legs, assorted flatbreads, stuffed peppers, yumm this is making me hungry!

I would have a massive table filled with all kinds of seafood (oysters, clams, mussels, whole lobsters, etc), a pasta station with all different sauces and toppings, and a bacon bar. That’s my dream buffet which is kind of pricey, here’s what my realistic food buffet actually looked like (and some of these were dream things too):

– corned beef carving station

– chicken kiev

– rockfish spiedini (shishkebabs)

– pumpkin ravioli

– smashed potato bar (toppings included truffled mushrooms, because if you’re a foodie you gotta get some truffle in there somehow)

– sauteed kale

-grilled zuchini

– panzanella salad with mozzarella

– leafy salad with beets, goat cheese
