So a sit down dinner is definately not in my budget, so I had originally wanted to just do appitizers, but last night when I couldn’t sleep (You know, when you get your best….or worst ideas) I thought about having a buffet of foods that matched colors. My colors are white and black so I thought about having, pulled turkey, white meat, mashed potatoes, homemade bread….etc.
Good idea? Bad idea? Any foods you can think of?

I’d be worried that that might look a little bland…. Maybe just use white plates and white napkins? I’m not sure as a guest that I would realize if the food matched the colour scheme anyways, it’s food… You sort of expect it to be colourful and delicious looking!

In this case I dont think it would work very well. There arent that many foods that could fall in the black category and I think you would end up with some odd combinations or food that you could do better and or cheaper, but you were limited because of your color constraint.

White: rice, pasta, tortillas, white corn
Black: raisins, olives, black beans, seaweed (sushi rolls would be black & white)
Dang, this is hard, good luck! And this menu doesn’t sound too appetizing, lol.

While I like the creativity of the idea, I would worry that your food would come off as bland looking (even if it wasn’t). I like the suggestion of white plates and white linens instead. To me, food always tastes so much better when it’s visually appealing and full of lots of colors. 🙂
When I think of a plate of all white-ish food it makes me think of this:

I don’t like this idea because 1) I can’t think of that many tasty white foods and 2) most white food isn’t very healthy.
In My Humble Opinion, I also think it just sounds like an odd theme.

Well I guess my main thing is that I’m having my wedding in Texas with my huuuuuge family and I want to make sure that I have foods that they will actually like, but they like good ol’ southern cooking. Mac & Cheese, Fried stuff etc. I’m just worried that that kind of food will stick out because my wedding is formal?

lawl. Yeah white foods would make it bland. Hadn’t thought about it that way. Just thought about it last night while I was delusional 🙂

I don’t like the idea becuse a plate of same-color (any color) food just doesn’t look appetizing to me.

@shelbyejkrug: Why not do a modern take on traditional favourites? Gourmet mac n cheese with blue cheese or goat cheese. Deep fried chicken with fresh rosemary and fingerling potatoes. Etc etc

Many couples have menu items that reflect their heritage or geographical childhood homes at a formal wedding.
It would be much better to have colorful, delicious food on white plates than bland looking and tasting food to match a color scheme.

Mashed potatoes (which everyone loves) and cream gravy are the only things I can think of that are white. I can’t picture any black foods that are appetizing, much less that mixed tastes will enjoy. Use your colors for the decor and go with a well-rounded selection of food that doesn’t stick to a certain color scheme.
