@absolutely_tati:  OMG NO!!!  LOL I feel you, my Fiance wanted to wear cowboy boots and POSSIBLY JEANS TO THE RECEPTION!!!!  He thinks just because our reception is in a barn that it can be “come as you are!!”

Since he felt tuxes and regular shoes were too formal, I started sending him pictures of suit options, and he actually ended up ordering a brown tux!  If you give him a diversion of your choosing, maybe he’ll surprise you.  Try and find shoe options that you think is suitable and he’ll still like and see what he says.

What would you like to see the men wear?

@absolutely_tati:  You are correct that they are going to look foolish and ridiculous. But if they wear matching sneakers, they are going to look even MORE ridiculous, imo – like some absurd coordinating clown troupe. The foolish part is that they are wearing sneakers with formal clothes at a formal occasion, not that they aren’t matching.

Can you show your Fiance some pictures of James Bond or some other well-dress manly man? Maybe that would inspire him to adopt a more appropriate look. I agree that the groom should dress himself for the wedding, but this is just ridiculous.

@absolutely_tati:  Oh good! I was picturing your pretty gown with 9 different neon color shoes and 9 non-matching neon patent leather cumberbuns. I know how much “personality” those shoes have at times. If you go too far, you drift into Clownville. Will they be wearing your wedding colors?

Whoops I accidently copied the orignial post into my reply instead of what I wrote! Sorry!

I copied it so I could read it in another format (limited internet) and I copied in the OP instead of my reply! OOPSY!

Anyway my reply was basically what PPs said, let him do it, it’s just the reception and as a guest I would think it was unique and fun! And it’s really refreshing to see some “groom ideas” in the wedding!

I think it’s cute and also his decision what he and his groomsmen wear. But it does give you a great bargaining chip for next time you want to do something he thinks is weird!

As long as there’s no photographic evidence, just let him do it. But explain to him that if he decides to wear that for photos, in 20 years he’s going to look back and regret looking ridiculous in his photos.

“@MrsUPS:   they are all heavy into sneakers. Each of them has more than 200 pairs. So there really isn’t a budget issue here .”

They all have matching sneakers and vests that match each other? I highly doubt that, so it would be an extra expense. Which is probably why he is not suggesting that they all be matchy matchy.

ETA: I just read where you said it was resolved. So it doesnt really matter, but at least now maybe you can see my point
