My fiance tried to ask my dad, but my dad didn’t pick up the phone any of the 8 times he called (we live in a different state, so a face to face meeting without me knowing was impossible).  In the end he just gave up.  My dad later said he was glad he didn’t have to go through the conversation cause it would have been weird, lol!

We have been living together for 4 years and he talked with both of my parents about a month ago (no ring yet though…hmmm!!). He didn’t ask for permission as much as just told them that he was planning on proposing to me. It was something that I really wanted and I absolutely love how he did it! (My mom spilled the beans and I got the rest of the story from my SO) We had just come back from my aunt’s wedding (I was in the wedding party so was not around for said conversation). My SO said to my dad “So I was thinking of making Tina next in line.” My dad stared at SO for a second until it clicked in his head and he said “I need a drink.” My SO got a little nervous at this point and said “Uhhhhhhh, in a good way or in a bad way?” My dad laughed and said “A good way! A good way!” and they both had some scotch. 😉

I never thought of him as the type of guy who would ask permission, but I think he did it out of fear of my dad!

Yes. Which felt odd as we’d been together for over 3 years and had been talking about marriage for about a year and a half beforehand. Also my dad didn’t ask my grandfather’s permission so he felt weird about it. But they were grateful he did and it meant a lot to him so I’m glad he did it.

My dad was the most important person in my life up until I met my fiance.  I told Fiance that I would not accept any proposal unless he had talked to my dad first – not to get permission, because that’s just silly.  I’m 26 years old!  But to get my dad’s blessing.  I knew it was something my dad would want and I wanted to start my dad’s and my fiance’s relationship off on the right foot.  I’m so glad he listened to me and asked because it just made everything so perfect!
