Hi ladies (and gents) I have a question for you. If your blog is pretty well read, how did you attract readers? I have a blog (style related) and it’s been up and running almost two months now. I get around 50-60 hits a day, but I would like to go beyond that.
Any ideas? How did YOU do it? Thanks!

While our self promotion policy doesn’t allow users to post their blog links on the boards, we do have a monthly “Share Your Blogs” thread. You can post to the March thread (and all subsequent months) so people can find your blog, as well as finding more fun blogs to read yourself!

I don’t blog, but I was a journalism major so I had to learn all about it :). Try pairing with another blog so you can bounce your readership back and forth.

I dont have that many readers (only had my blog since November) but what I have done is told my friends/family about it, posted a link to it in my facebook profile, posted on the monthly blog thread and also commented on others’ blogs regularly. Actually I think commenting on other people’s blogs regularly is one of the best ways to gain readership. If someone sees that you have commented a lot on their blog and your comment links back to your blog then they will most likely come read your blog.

@PitBulLover: I read yours, but through RSS, so you don’t get hits from it 😉

Although these boards don’t allow self-promotion, there are some others that do.
I decided to regularly posts on forums that talked about what my blog was about. Usually, a link to my blog was included in my signature.
I also created a Facebook fan page and linked it to the blog so that anytime I posted it would show on the fan page.

I agree with PitBullLover – commenting on other people’s blogs is a good way to get followers.

hey blogging bees!
for my personal blog…waaay before i got engaged, i slowly but surely built my reader base by being a loyal reader and commenter on more popular, high traffic blogs. and the big win? inviting a few of my most favorite bloggers to participate in a “guest blog series” where they guest blogged on my blog about a particualr topic – my first blog series was called “the jet set” and asked my guest bloggers where they would go for a fabulous getaway, what they’d pack, music they’d listen to on the plane, book they’d read and cocktail they’d sip…among other things. 🙂 they shared their guest post on their blogs and i god 10x more traffic than any other day….and some new readers in the process.
i hope that was helpful advice! best of luck to all of you…and i can’t wait to read your blogs!

@ostrich: that’s awesome advice.
How does guest blogging work: do they send you their guest blog and you post it yourself? Or do you temporarily add them as a contributor? would you put a call out on your blog for guest bloogers, or actually individually message them? I really like this idea!
