I did this, and my BMs often recall how much they appreciated it.  Everyone was comfortable and happy, and I am SO glad I did it that way.

@Heartly:  Ditto! This is what I’m doing for my upcoming wedding – looking forward to how it all turns out.

@heartly: how many BMs were there? I am doing this with my girls, but there are only 3 of them so I am hoping it won’t just look scattered. I’ve only really seen pics with 5+ BMs and that looks great. They are all doing short/knee length, and I kept the color range pretty narrow (basically, I told them that if coffee or chocolate can be that color, they can wear it) so hopefully it’ll be cohesive enough. I don’t want to be that bride who forces someone to wear a dress they hate, and they’re all different shapes and sizes so we’d never find something everyone would look good in otherwise.

Yay!

My girls chose styles that fit their body types, as long as they were the same color and material.  I love that they all feel so comfortable in their dresses.  I know they will look fabulous on my wedding day.  =)

I tried!!!! And then three out of four of them each gave their preference as the same dress, same color. I was totally bummed, but they’re buying so I didn’t want to argue when it seemed silly to pull a bridezilla over matching dresses (it was the 2nd choice of the 4th girl, so she’s wearing it too). I look at these pics of different dresses in different colors and love them so much…

@soontobeMrsBoo:  I did a designed and a color with 3 BM’s and they wore all different styles.  I thought it looked nice!

that’s great to hear!  My girls are all picking out their own LBDs.  I cannot wait to see them all together

@soontobeMrsBoo:  I only have three, and I’ve wondered the same thing … but I ultimately decided to do it, because they are all very different people and I feel like their dresses should reflect that. (FWIW: we’re also asking the groomsmen to just get a black suit and a green tie of their own choosing).

The ladies all sent me pics or links of the dresses they were considering, before they made a purchase, and there was a bit of negotiating along the way, but when all was said and done and the dresses were bought, everyone was happy. That’s worth a lot to me.

@soontobeMrsBoo:  We’re doing this and there are only 3.

I do think that the colors/dresses need to be similar in some way for them to work when there are less BMs.

For example, the greens they chose have a hint of blue in them, and all 3 girls ended up with v-necks. They look greak together!

I’m doing this with shades of pink since my wedding has a sort of ombre/sunset side theme going. I have absolute faith in my girls and they have been splendid picking out unique beautiful dresses. I have several shades of dark pink, one girl who got a colorblock dress from modcloth w/ 3 different shades of pink and a light pink dress. So excited to see them all together 🙂

I think as long as you have 3, it works- like in SarahSmilesDec28’s photo. I just have two, and I think it would have looked off, unless they did two different colors.

I have 8 girls and never had any intention of having them all match. Because we are planning the wedding from 3000 miles away, we decided to have a black and white wedding (we also LOVE black and white photography and black and white in general, so it worked). So, the girls are picking out knee length black dresses. They will have matching hair pieces or something.
