You can make any frame into a chalkboard by spraying the glass with chalkboard paint.

I have DIY painted metal before but you have to be careful because the paint can scratch off. There are cans of paint out there, it might be easier and have a better coat than spray paint.

We made one too, the ones you can buy are so expensive!  I also thought the selection of picture frames was a lot better than the selection of pre-made chalkboards.  We decided to paint the cardboard backing of the frame with chalkboard paint instead of the glass.  That way, when the baby is born we can put a blown up newborn photo of her in the frame and hang it in the nursery.  It has actually held up really well, and it was very simple to do.  They make chalkboard spray paint so we just popped out the backing, sprayed it, let it dry, and voila!  Here’s a pic of how it came out:

For our wedding, we bought a chalkboard at Home Depot (you can find them for cheap – like $6 – back by the lumber) and just put it in a gold frame from Goodwill. Hubby cut the board down a little bit so it would fit better. We had previously tried the chalkboard paint approach but we wanted to use chalk markers (easier to keep it neat) and this erased SO much better than the chalkboard paint one!

I found one at our local Sunday Market for $25. It’s about 20×30(?) and has a blue wooden frame. 🙂
