Prior to dress shopping, I showed my fiance pictures of different dresses. So he has a general idea of what kind of dress that I want. He knows that I just bought the gown, that’s it’s not traditional white, and that it has straps. He has actually seen the model picture of the dress, but I think he has forgotten by now which dress it was. lol.

Chaitea:  My Fiance doesn’t know much. The only thing he knows for sure is that it’s ivory. I had asked the boutique where I bought my dress to send swatches of both my dress and my bridesmaid dress to help me with decorations, and absentmindedly left them on the counter. He picked up the swatch from my dress and asked if that’s what my dress looked like, and I said it was. Not a big deal, like other bees have said, he’s a man, he can’t decide what my dress looks like from a swatch.

However, I do occasionally accidently give hints. For instance, I’ll be watching a wedding show and will say things like “That dress is way poofier than mine” or “I’d never wear that type of dress”, so if he wanted to, he could probably put my dress together. I’m just waiting for the day when my actual dress comes up and I say “Hey! That’s my dress!”. Haha.

He knows that I found “the one”, and that its been ordered, but that’s all he knows.  My lips are sealed. And its soooo hard, because I tell him nearly everything!!!!!!

Chaitea:  Practically nothing. He knows that I bought it, and that it was in my top three choices. I showed him the runner up dress and he really liked that one.

everything. i brought him on all the dress shopping trips, when i bought my dress i tried it back on for size and he was the one who laced up the corset back, and he came along for fitting when i sent it for alterations.

in comparison, my mother does not know what it looks like yet.

My daughter’s fiance knew nothing about the dress.  When we brought it home and were hanging it up in the closet a day or two before the wedding, he heard it rustling around.  Later he told her he got excited because it sounded like a big dress.  So I guess he didn’t see it but he heard it!

He knows nothing! There’s an ongoing joke that it’s yellow and purple. Ha!

He knows that it will be ivory, have a high neck and long sleeves, and be an 1860s style. He knows what the general idea of it is, but he knows little about the specifics

My Fiance told me he thinks I would go for a tight sexy mermaid style, he couldn’t be more wrong. He knows nothing about the dress…

MadsTheGallifreyan:  Are you worried that he might see pictures of your dress idea here on the boards? I remember seeing your inspiration pic months ago, and I just love it, I’m obsessed with that time period.

My fiance has actually given me several dress suggestions, and he knows I love lace sleeves, but I am not giving him any details or posting pictures until our wedding day!!!

I am really shocked at the amount of brides saying their fiance has seen them in it!!  I expected some “I showed the online version” or even a few “He helped me shop” but not so many just straight-out showing pictures of brides in the dress!

I want it to be a surprise.  Before shopping, I showed him so many random pictures from Instagram – “Do you like this?” over and over.  What shocked me was most of the time he said NO! And he’s the kind of guy who doesn’t put too much thought into what he/I wear.  I’ve decided he will like me in whatever I choose, he just doesn’t like those fake model-y pictures.  🙂

My Fiance went dress shopping with me.  Pretty much he was there to confirm my choices. I wasn’t dolled up plus the sample was few sizes bigger so dress was clamped at the back to fit me. He loves the dress I had my eye on and I heard him said wow under his breath when he first saw me in it. Like what the other bees said,  mens are visual creature,  I’m pretty sure in a years’ time he would’ve forgotten how I looked like during my 1st fitting.  The dress has been ordered and will be here in 6months, and I plan to go for the alterations myself,  so Yup,  he won’t be seeing the dress until our wedding day.  I guess it’s our culture that the groom follows the bride to the fittings! I’m glad that we did it this way cos this is definitely something I’ll love to have his involment in.

coachhw: thank you 🙂  I am not really that worried, to be honest. I am adding quite a few details to the dress that he wouldn’t know about, and besides, he very rarely goes on here. As long as he doesn’t see the finished dress or designs, I am fine with it

My Future Mother-In-Law offered to let me wear the veil she wore for her own wedding, but it is white and my dress is ivory. My Fiance (who up to this point has heard nothing about my dress) overheard his mother say, “we could always dye the veil to match.” He was horrified (“dye it? You have a colored dress? But we’re having a Catholic wedding? What color is it?) We tried to convince him it was bright pink, but he caught on when we tried to tell him it was covered in rhinestones and a zebra-print sash. We finally relented and explained to him the concept of an ivory dress…but that is the only detail he knows
