I loved this dress but it was over budget. My mom wanted me to get it anyway. I wanted to keep looking.

Here is when I tried on my dress in the store. It was a no brainer. Perfectly under budget on sale and drop dead gorgeous.

My dress on my wedding day.

I was like, SO CLOSE to getting this dress. It was NWT at a consignment shop, in my size, in my COLOR, for $700 it’s an Essence of Australia EDD216701

Ultimately, though, I want something that will cover my tattoos and my seamstress said it would cost about $500 to do the alterations.

I just ordered this replica from an Etsy shop instead:

They’re going to make it custom for about $430 shipping included.

My runner up was this beautiful legends by romona keveza gown, and I still feel a pang of regret sometimes about not getting it.  It was my mother’s favorite of all the dresses I tried. Fittings would have been more challenging, because I would have had to travel from Boston to New York for them, and I was worried that shortening the dress for my height (5’2″, or 5’6″ with heels) would lose a lot of the beauty of the skirt. Also, not so forgiving if I gained weight.

I went with the Carolina Herrera Mason, which felt more “me.”  Also was relieved that it would be more forgiving when shortening the skirt, and if I didn’t lose as much weight as I planned.

I’ll show pictures of me in the dress, but just the backs of the runner up and my final choice because for both, the back was my favorite part.

Runner Up (Christos, Claudia):

ndc11 :  Thanks so much! The skirt was a big puff ball but it was so light and easy to dance in. Is your dress Eve of Milady as well?

Enaura – My second choice.  This dress was really pretty and not heavy at all despite its beading.  It had a lot of sparkle that I loved but I felt it was a “safe” dress for me.  The dress I chose has more edge.

My dream dress was from 2012 so no one carried it anymore – I had a custom made to replicate it. But my back up dress was a watters soledad. I still think it’s stunning.
