Tell me about any new stay-at-home hobbies you’ve picked up to keep yourself busy.
I have my usuals– reading, gardening, evening walks, video games, dog snuggling… but I’m having a bout with boredom that is guiding me into retail therapy, and I’m out of things to buy for the wedding. That is not a safe “hobby”, so I’m looking for other ideas and would love to hear about things other Bees have been doing. A bit of normalcy, if you will.

I got some hand lettering/calligraphy books from amazon and some really great pens. It’s kind of fun and relaxing to practice!

I learned how to dip my nails and it’s my favorite new hobby!
I have always hated getting my nails done at a salon and there was *no way* I was going out in a pandemic to do that! Before COVID I used to go once every couple months as a treat or for a wedding or vacation
I always felt that getting my nails done was expensive and time-consuming and I dreaded going every time. Even when I had an appointment there was a 20-30 minute wait and dip powder would take at least 2 hours.
And at the height of the pandemic I was feeling really down and depressed about everything so I needed a pick-me-up.
I was tired of biting my nails and always having short, stubby fingernails. I wanted to have nice looking nails for a change so I figured why not learn to do my nails myself?
Now that I’ve gotten the hang of it I love it! I have pretty nails every day and can change the color or design whenever I want- no $5 additional charge for an accent nail or $5 charge for removing my dip! lol
It is so satisfying and fun and it has made a world of difference for me and I no longer bite my nails!

That does sound fun! Perhaps I will order a couple of those. It could be useful for our thank you notes…
That’s awesome! I haven’t been to a nail or hair salon since February, so I feel this so much! I’ve been using colorstreet nail polish stickers and enjoy them, but I used to get the dip manicures. Having to make it to appointments so often was the hardest part, plus the cost of the manicure.

I recently took up learning a new instrument. Our local music school is doing virtual private lessons, and I started meeting with a tutor once a week in the evenings. It’s been really nice. On those nights, I grab a glass of wine and my laptop and go to a secluded room while DH messes with the kids. My instructor is super low-key and fun to talk to– I’m her only adult student, so we joke that it’s like our own little practice happy hour. So, I’m doing those lessons and feel like I also made a new virtual friend!

I’ve started doing my own nails. Doing my own hair. And now I’m a teacher to my kids🤣
