A couple of months ago, I reorganized my work desk so that I can have a big “snack drawer”. I keep a mix of healthy and unhealthy (nothing SUPER unhealthy) snacks in it so that I’m not tempted to visit the vending machine that’s conveniently down the hall from my office.
Some of the things I always have in it are: Rice cakes (cheddar and caramel are my favs), rice krispy treats, Belvita breakfast biscuits, fruit, peanut butter, different flavors of protein powder for shakes, some other suppluments that I take daily, fruit snacks, peanut butter crackers, granola bars, etc. (I do have a sweet tooth, if you cannot tell, but I’d like to find some more savory snacks as well) I like to buy things in bulk (Sams) that are either prewrapped, or things that I can easily weigh out into single serving sizes so it’s easier for me to track my macros. I DO have access to a fridge, but it’s very small and there normally isn’t much room in it.
The inspiration for this post is the fact that my drawer is almost empty so it’s time to make a shopping trip, and I’m trying to think of some new things.

I don’t know if they sell these in preportioned packages, but I LOVE whisps. They’re literally just parmesan cheese crackers. So obviously if you’re dairy free those won’t work. You can also make them yourself by packing some parmesan cheese (and spices if you want) on a wax paper lined baking pan and bake at 425F until it’s crispy. Then just break them apart and preportion them into sandwich baggies.
RX bars are also good, my fav are the apple cinnamon.

LilliV : I always forget about trail mix. I’m bad about picking out the things I like… lol And I do love applesauce!
chelbell23 : I’ve never had the whisps, but I have had something similar, and I do like them. I always forget about those.. good idea! RX bars are good. I don’t think I’ve tried the apple cinnamon though, I will have to find some of those!

What about fruit? My favourite for a quick snack is honeycrisp apples.

I love to keep dried fruit or raisins at my desk. Gives me a bit of a sweet treat without being too bad.

i never graze during the day but at night if iwant a snack i have a soft spot for tortilla chipas and dip. actually right now im slightly obsessed with cape cod chips in the aged cheddar flavor. so good. its more about the crazy crunch though. love that.
and when its that time of month i ALWAYS have to have a hershey bar with almonds. that is an absolute must.
im a creature of habit though so during the day i tend to eat exactly the same thing. a banana for breakfast with coffee. bring tea to work. lunch is grilled chicken and eithe rgreen beans or brocolli. then an apple (gala) or pear around 2.
man, putting that in writing makes me feel like rain man or something

I like Boom Chicka Pop popcorn, organic, lightly salted, 80 cals in a bag. Healthier than chips!

Wow that is a lot of snacks to have on hand during a work day.
I generally find “healthy” snacks are actually higher in calories and fat/sugar than many regular chocolate bars. If I need something to hold me over I tend to go for a kid’s multipack bag of crisps – the ones that are puffed or something so they are light, or a kid’s chocolate bar so I can have a little chocolate fix but it is really well proportioned. The other thing I usually have if I am actuallu hungry is a chunk of cheese as it is super filling.
I tend to keep any snacks to around 100 calories or so, if I am any hungrier than that I just have an earlier meal. I avoid cereal bars, granola bars etc for the most bart because I don’t need 3/400 calories of nuts and oats between lunch and dinner.
I don’t keep snacks in a desk drawer though, I just pop out if I need something. It gives me a big of fresh air and I try to get up from my desk every hour.

blushingbee2019 : Yes, fruit is one of the things I always keep in it – mainly apples and bananas.
steny03 : I always forget about dried fruit. Other than dried bananas, I’ve never been a big fan, and those are pretty high in calories so I’d rather eat a regular banana. What other dried fruits do you suggest?
alfalfasprout10518 : I have to graze during the day – it really helps me stay on track, otherwise I get too hungry and overeat!
futuremrs2020 : I’ve never tried the Boom Chicka Pop, but I do lik Skinny Pop. I haven’t had it in awhile, though. I’ll give Boom Chicka Pop a try next time!
zzar45 : I don’t eat all of those snacks in one day! Lol I just keep a variety and restock my drawer once it gets low. I normally have one snack in the morning, and one in the afternoon. Most of them are between 80-150 calories, unless I have a lighter lunch, then I have a heavier snack in the afternoon (normally greek yogurt or a banana with peanut buttter). I do sometimes keep fun sized candy on hand, like you mentioned. I normally don’t have the opportunity to leave my office to get snacks, other than going to the vending machine which gets expensive doing every day.

futuremrss17 : peanut butter and apple slices, all the way! add a half-palm-sized serving of granola on the side to spice things up 😂
to make this work-friendly, get the Jif to-go cups of PB, and slice an apple up before work. Granola is easy to keep around.
you might also like the Angie’s Boom Chicka POP sweet & salty kettle corn that dimes in the small 140cal bags. I love that stuff! Angie’s also has a new trail mix out that has chocolate covered popcorn with nuts and a few pieces of dried fruit.

Favourite should-be-snacks-but-I-always-end-up-making-a-meal-out-of-them: natural or dry roasted nuts, rice crackers
