ETA: I can’t add anymore to my original post but just wanted to mention that engagement parties are not at all popular in my area and circle of people. In fact, I’m the only one who had it that I know of. It’s absolutely not necessary but we just did it because we were aware first hand that there will be a longer than normal time frame between our engagement and wedding.

lol I started with my dress too haha and like you, I definitely don’t recommend lol
My fiance proposed to me on a whim so he didn’t have a ring so the doesnt thing I did was go dress shopping and bought my dress, then I got my engagement ring, picked a date, colors and then venue. Everything else fell seamlessly in to place once I finally had a venue.

I wanted an October wedding so we decided on potential dates first. Then I choose colors and we started picking out a venue. Everything else went from there.

The first thing I did was set a firm budget. Not fun or romantic but all decisions made were based on that. The second was deciding on the “feel” (formal or casual, colors, etc) which led to our choice in venue. Happy planning!!
