My name gives it away, but I’ll be an Atkins 😀
Don’t want to post the name for anonymity purposes, but my new last initial will be a C. 🙂
Dougherty … pronounced “docker-tee.” That should be fun to teach my students!
I don’t want to post mine either on the Internet, and I haven’t even decided if I’ll be changing my last name or not at the moment, but if I do all I can say is that I’m going from an extremely short, four letter last name (S) to an extremely long, ten letter last name (H). This is one of the major reasons that I am contemplating not changing it. I’ve never had any confusion with my last name, and I’ve never had to spell it for anyone. My SO, on the other hand, is constantly on the phone doing the, “H as in Harry, E as in Elephant..” thing! LOL
@katiecat08: *sigh* The one thing I don’t care for about Fiance. He’s Guatemalan, so he has two last names. One is normal, Lopez. Who doesn’t know somebody named Lopez? Nobody. But that’s his second last name and not the one I will be taking. No, no, his first last name is bizarre. It’s Salic. Now I know you’re reading that and it’s making you think of salicylic acid. But that’s not even how it’s pronounced! It’s pronounced sah-LEEK! I’ve already had more than one person tell me not to change my name. Ha. My dad said “What? Can you say that again?” Oh well, I’m sure I’ll get used to freaking everybody mispronouncing my name, after all I’ve been called Andrea my entire life and my name is not Andrea. Should be par for the course at this point.
There are only a few of us in the United States, so I can’t post, but it starts with an “I”, is only 4 letters long, and absolutely no one pronounces it correctly because it is French.
@jareese425: My son’s teacher’s name is Mrs. Dougherty. I have known Doughertys before, so I said DOH-erty cause that’s how they said it. Yep, wrong.
Not posting my last name on here either but my new last name starts with L and is super short. It will be so much easier to spell! I received my driver’s license with my new name on Friday and it was so strange to see it in writing!
Mrs Skelton-Shepperson No one can spell either without asking. Oh boy.
I’ll be keeping my last name because we have the same first name, haha!
@emsy3110: That’s so exciting! I probably would have cried lol
@beetee123: I went from a 4 letter name that no one could pronounce (I think half the world failed grade 2, they don’t understand that the ‘e’ makes the ‘i’ say its name) to a much longer one that everyone can pronounce!
His family is the only ones in the US with this last name, so for privacy reasons I’ll be Mrs. W.
