Ok this isn’t my story but that of family friends. They were both on the phone to my aunt (one was in one room on one phone, and the other one is in a different room on the other phone) I think they were talking about my aunt going to visit or something. Then the guy said something about them getting married soon. The woman immediately dropped the phone, ran into the room where he was, and said “are you serious?!” while my aunt was still on the other end. So that was their low key proposal, do they win?

He asked me to grab him a can of Coke and when I came back into the room he was kneeling on one knee holding the ring out.

@canarydiamond:  This. Almost exactly. And whenever I see a YouTube video of someone elses proposal, I silently thank god it didn’t go any other way.

My dad looked at my mom in a parking lot and said “guess we should get married”. Lol! They’ve been together since they were 14 so I guess it works.

FleeSircus:  Cute topic!! These are great, here is mine,  I’ll try to keep it short…I had been married before and always said I would never do it again. He has never been married. He always bought me jewelry for my brithday or anniversary, earings bracelet etc, on our 5th year he bought me a diamond anniversary band which we both insisted was NOT an engagement ring and I wore it on my right hand. We were told when we bought it we could trade it in/up later for engagement ring if we ever decided too. After two years I got a crack in the shank of the ring and went to have it fixed, I told him I felt naked without it. It rebroke about 3-4 months later, I was upset and he said, “Well its about time to trade it in anyways” I said “you know what that means”, he said “Whenever you are ready”…it was a running joke from then on. Flash forward to this past summer, the shank is cracked again (not all the way through) it have it inspected for the coverage purposes they never notice it, I point it out and they say we can take it and have it done I say no we are going away together and I want it with me, I go out to where he is buying a phone at the Sprint kiosk thing at the mall and tell him and he says “About time to trade it in anyways” I say “You know what that means” the sprint guy says “Oh boy” Fiance says “I know exactly what it means, and as I have told you, whenever you are ready, I said “After we get back sometime”. That was July, our anniversary was in September. When our anniversary came I said “Ok.. time to go trade it in”…we went that day and picked out a new one, I narrowed down what I liked, he picked it. No down on one knee, no big moment. We got engaged for our 9 year couple anniversary and will be married this September for our 10 year couple anniversary.

Although it took 3 years from the first “Whenever you are ready to trade it in”, it was pretty low key 😉

I think it is literally impossible for our proposal to have been more low key! We had been talking about getting engaged for a while and even narrowed it down to a ring (well technically two rings, but he knew which one I liked best :P). So one afternoon he went for a walk downtown alone for no particular reason, and I kind of guessed what was up. I had gone out with some friends, and when I got home he was lying in bed under the covers for some reason, and asked me to come join him. When he convinced me to he pulled a ring box out from under the covers and said “Let’s do it!”. Then I told him he had to actually open the box and show me the ring, and he opened it upside down, haha. Then I told him he had to actually ASK me to marry him or it didn’t count, so he said “will you marry me?” and I said “well yes of course!”

Haha this story makes me sound like such a control freak about my own proposal but it was all jokey and happy in the moment! Not exactly the most romantic proposal ever but I was just thrilled to be engaged to him 🙂
