- Wedding: December 2010
An enagagement ring! I’ve been waiting (and mostly lurking π for almost a year and even though I’ve been technically engaged for the last few months, I had NO ring and NO proposal. In fact, my wedding is totally booked and planned for, dress, venue, invitations out, the whole nine yards. So, I totally knew it was coming and that the ring was in the house (I almost went insane lol). I couldn’t imagine how he would manage to surprise me because I have freaky intuition and can practically read minds, but he definitely pulled it off.
My birthday is next Friday and I thought he’d try and throw me by proposing the day before or the day after. Bu here’s how he did it: We woke up this morning as usual and watched Saturday Night Live that TiVo had thoughtfully recorded for us last night. I always eat breakfast in two parts: First the cereal and then the English muffin. I came out to the kitchen to toast the English muffin and the ring box was on the counter with a note: I told you I would make you a nice breakfast. Oh.My.God. I almost fainted, my knees gave way just like in a novel or movie and couldn’t even open the box right away because I was so shocked. I just stared at it like a fool. Then he asked me to marry him, I said yes, of course and he put the ring on my finger. I haven’t been able to stop looking at it all day. Oh, and our outfits? Bathrobe (me) and a towel (him:)
I really thought I was going to be so cool and above it all, I mean I was already engaged but the ring, oh the ring. Finally. I’ve silently been cheering every one of your engagement stories and feeling the waiting pain and agony, and even though I probably sound like a babbling idiot, i have to say it was so worth it.
An aside: Not only was my entire wedding and honeymoon booked, I had researched and picked out the ring myself. NO input from him. I gave him no other choices. Ha Ha. And I was still surprised as hell because I had never even seen the ring in person. When we started talking marriage, I knew I needed to find something recession-friendly (read: under $1000) so I went online and started Googling. Came across the Claddagh. Hmmm. He’s Irish. Double hmmm. An Irish jewelry company makes gemstone Claddagh rings? Triple hmmm. Done and done.
So, here’s my precious. Hope you can see it with all the sea glass (I was attempting an “artistic” shot and it’s not a very big ring in the first place π So, with the upcoming holidays ( know about the vow of silence-something I would have failed at miserably, I’m afraid), I’m sending diamond dust in everyone’s direction π
