Mine was not painful at all. And I don’t think you should have to worry about that/face headaches on your wedding day.
I was just a bridesmaid in a wedding and another bridesmaid had hair that sounded like yours. Unfortunately we all went to get updos and hers looked almost the same as when she came in and I’m sure she could have done it on her own. It was only about half up and there was a little added volume.
The bridesmaid talked about how frustrating her hair is and she’s not sure what options are out there that would look like she had her hair professionally done instead of her every day look. At the same time I think it’s nice to look like yourslef – so maybe straightening it all if you never do that would be a little too different?
Good luck finding a solution. I’d talk to your stylist and see what she suggests.

Oh I always get a headache after the hairdresser, from all the tugging and hot blowdryer right on ur scalp, not to mention if it’s an updo!! I just take an Excedrin afterwards and I’m good to go!

O my goodness, this stuff shouldn’t be painful, a little discomfort maybe, and a little sorness if it’s pinned up all day, but it shouldn’t really hurt bad enough to take medicine. I would suggest calling her and telling her how bad it hurt and maybe see if she can do all the straightening the night before so that day all she has to do is the updo on the wedding day. It will put less strain on your head to seperate it out for the 2 days. I would also suggest to tell her if a pin specifically hurts so she can arrange them pain free as she goes.

this thread makes me so happy that i’m leaning towards a down style. my curly hair won’t stay in pins fo very long! i also hate the fact of having to take aspirin for a hair style….especcially since i can’t swallow pills (i have to cruh them).

I get updos fairly regularly for fancy events and I have never had one hurt unless the hair is pulled too far back and tugs at my scalp, and then I will get a headache. I would recommend having another trial and emphasizing that you don’t want anything pulled too tightly. Nowadays my hairdresser knows what I like and I never have any problems.

mine hurt too. and i had over 50 bobby pins in my head. it hurt worse on the trial. on the wedding day it just felt really really heavy as the day wore on. i imagine it probably hurt too, but I was too caught up in everything else to notice it.
i’d say have another trial to try out styles with less bobby pins. See what else you can do if you are worried about it.

I’d say that if when she’s putting in a specific pin it hurts or feels a bit irritating ask her to re-position it. I was recently a Bridesmaid or Best Man and had an updo which was fine except for 1 pin which was a little bit ouchy! Don’t abandon your updo just tell your hairdresser about the painful trial and I’m sure she’ll check with each pin that it’s not painful! Goodluck!

Mine wasn’t painful, but I was definitely ready to take it out by the end of the night. I’d go back and talk to your stylist, see what she has to say, whether there are ways she can adjust so you’re not in pain.
