So, I purchased my dress at Madeline’s daughter (in Portsmouth New Hampshire) this past March. When you do so, they tell you if your gown is to be altered there it will be a minimum of $690 to do so. Yes, the sales woman was very kind and did help me find a wonderful dress but told me to order a size 8. Street clothes, I”m a size 2. She said it was because the measurements of my butt were an 8. I didn’t question it, figured it was her thing.
So Madeline’s has had some alteration department staffing issues and could no longer take on new brides gowns to be altered and provided a list of recommended seamstresses to do the work. (Though I was soooooooo upset this proved a blessing in disguise.)
So I went to Jeanne at I THINK SEW, in Milton New Husband. Yes a bit off the beaten path but soooooo worth it. http://ithinksew.wix.com/i-think-sew
Jeanne is perhaps the sweetest person I’ve ever met. At my first fitting, she was truly horrified how BIG my dress was. She said they should have ordered a 4. :/ I explained I didn’t question them because it was their job and I thought the people at Madelines daughter knew what they were doing. She never did or would speak badly about Madelines daughter or anyone I imagine, just not that type of person, but boy did she have her work cut out for her.
She had to cut tons of the dress off to make it fit me. Undo the dress layer by layer, undo all the boning and reattach each piece, then unattach a bunch of beading and reattach it all to keep the symetry! I don’t know how she did it all in time but my dress is absolutely incredible! You’d never know it was 2 sizes too big.
Not only is she a miracle worker but she didn’t charger near as much as Madeline’s said their minimum alteration price was.
Please ladies, heed my warning, go see jeanne!
She also sells some gowns, but I didn’t really look through to be able to accurately comment on her selection at all.
