The single thing that has saved me the most money so far is talking to people who have hosted weddings in my area (family friends who hosted their daughter’s wedding, girlfriends, etc) and finding out what vendors they used. It has become clear that some of the better vendors are also the least expensive. unfortunately, I do not have a lot of faith in the wedding industry (It seems like a lot of vendors are just out to take as much money as possible). Anwyay, my advice to other bees is ask around and get referrals! It’s amazing how much you can save. This simple, common sense tip has saved me thousands!

you sound like a very smart bee! while it’s true we can learn a lot from online sources, and peer communities like this one, talking to people who have done it in your area and word-of-mouth referrals can be the best.
My other tip is think outside the box. We are having ours on a Weds eve in the summer, and by doing this we got a 55% reduction in our venue rental!

@billyjoelfan: that is what I did also. I been to so many wedding and ask the brides who they used. I also gave up on something to get something else. I wanted to have a place that only did 1 wedding at a time but the place I picked does 1 wedding at a time and other functions. I may not be the only event but I am the only wedding. I also picked a Sunday so I did not have to compete with any other brides.
