I get eBay coupons very occasionally, but they are usually only for very specific items. The most recent one I’ve received is take 20% off the Tommy Hilfiger store.  I did get one for 10% off any single item over $50 a few months ago, but coupons like that are rare.

Ebay is slowly losing all of its good sellers with hiked up listing prices and final value fees (you pay to list the item, then they take a percentage of the final sale).  We also have to pay Paypal a percentage of the total sale if the buyer uses Paypal (which most do).  They also recently started adding shipping charges into the sale price – so even though we still have to pay to ship the item out, Ebay counts the shipping amount as part of the final price, so we pay the final value fee based on the whole amount (item price plus shipping).

So basically, fewer sellers are offering incentives, discounts or coupons because they can’t afford to.  A lot of sellers are jumping ship altogether, hoping Ebay will reevaluate its fees, which I’m guessing won’t happen.

@milesbella: “counts the shipping amount as part of the final price, so we pay the final value fee based on the whole amount (item price plus shipping).”

Ohhhhhh!!! Now that explains why sellers were charging $50 shipping for a light-weight product that would cost around $6 at MOST to ship. And put the price of the product as $4 only.

So eBay has caught on to that. No wonder….

@Sasha2011:  That’s exactly what happened.  It stinks for honest sellers because now everyone is required to pay final value fees on both sale price and shipping.  I’m not sure how difficult it would have been, but they should have tracked down those sellers that were taking advantage of the system or require shipping price maximums.  Oh well … it is what it is.  I’ve been selling on Ebay since 2002 and since March of this year, it’s not worth my time.  They were also urging everyone to offer free shipping, not realizing, that just raises the item price (to cover the amount it costs to ship).  Don’t even get me started on Ebay – I spend as much time on those forums as I do on the Bee.

@Corilee13:  Yes, international sellers are taking over.  Be careful there as well … here’s why.  You buy an iten shipped from China for $5 and $25 shipping – you’re out $30.  The item arrives and isn’t at all like the description so you want to return it.  Sure, no problem, Ebay/Paypal will protect you 100% on your original sale price and original shipping BUT you have to return the item with Delivery Confirmation.  There isn’t delivery confirmation available for international mail unless you buy the more expensive shipping option.  You’ll end up spending an easy $30+ to return the item, only to get your original $30 amount back and you’re out the item.
