Did you get charged for your initial consultation with the planner? We were thinking about using a certain wedding planner and she wants to charge $100 just to talk to her and hear out her ideas and such….

I don’t know what is typical in this situation because my DOC is a friend from high school. But, it sounds kind of weird to me. You have to pay her to decide if you’re hiring her? That would kind of put me off.

@Ladygoodman-yeah you pay…and if you hire them you get a refund…the worst part is that they are a very highly rated company and I just dont get why they would be charging…

We are hiring a wedding planner and we met with several and did not have to pay anything for any of them. That seems really rediculous. That would be like a bridal salon charging you to try on dresses. I would not pay a consultation fee but thats just me. If you met with several planners you would be broke.

None of the planners I wanted to use in Canada charged to meet with them. That sounds pretty odd. I would ask if they’ll waive the fee and if they say no I wouldn’t meet with them at all.

We hired a DOC, who also does full-on wedding planning, and she definitely didn’t charge to meet with her. She charges one big fee, and then we have several meetings included in that (NOT including the initial consultation). That’s pretty strange (and off-putting) that your potential planner charges for the initial meeting. I’d be tempted to look elsewhere, unless you’ve heard really good things.

We were NOT charged to meet with prospective coordinators.
