We are having our engagement session April 14th – and our wedding is October 20th.
We can’t have the e-sess any earlier because our photog is flying out here (to Florida) from Texas, and that’s the first she’s available.
I had read that STD’s are supposed to go out 6mths before hand, ours would literally be going out 6mths before hand, depending on how fast I can get the pics back and made into save the dates, so they would either go out the last week in April, or more than likely, the first or second week in May.
Is this too late? 🙁
I love all things stationery and “real” mail, so the STD’s are something I’ve been looking forward to the most and I really don’t want to not do them, or send them with just a regular picture of us – I want to use the fancy engagement pics!
What do you girls think? Is that enough time or am I just kidding myself? I’ll probably still do it regardless because, like I said, it’s kind of my favorite part of the planning process, but will people think it’s crazy to get a STD in May and an invitation August or whenever? When are invitations supposed to go out btw? lol

Is it a destination wedding or a wedding that will require a lot of travel for most of the guests? If not, I think 5-6 months ahead is totally fine.

We got engaged on Christmas Eve and the wedding is in mid-May. We sent out Save-The-Date Cards about a week ago. That’s means that ours went out 4 months in advance and our family was SO appreciative that they knew not to schedule vacations, etc. I think you should definately do it!

No we honestly don’t even NEED save the dates, I just really want them, lol.
We live in Florida and our wedding is in Florida. Most of our guests are within 20 mins of us. We do have some out of town guests, but they already know the date and all that. 🙂 I just really want the STD’s ,lol.

I would defintiely send them out 6 months ahead of time, or even 5 months. In a way, it’s getting your guests primed for your wedding.
For Fiance & I, sending out the Save-The-Date Cards was a great experience because it forced us to compile mailing addresses for our guests… a harder process that we thought!
Best to do this 6 or even 5 months ahead, rather than only 8 weeks out.

I sent mine out six months in advance, to the day. Everyone expressed that it was perfect timing because they are just now getting started looking for flights.

My Maid/Matron of Honor didn’t send out her Save-The-Date Cards until about three and a half months before her wedding. You’re good. 🙂

I think you have plenty of time. We sent our save-the-dates out at about 5.5 months away. Your invites don’t need go to out until 6-8 weeks beforehand.

I think you’ll be just fine with that time frame.
