My Fiance will also be purchasing a suit. His Groomsmen will be renting.

We went to Joseph A Banks. Took advantage of the “buy 1 get 3” deal.

The groom picked the suit, we went with charchol grey wool suits, white shirts, black ties, Irish caps and different colored argyle socks for each guy.

The guys all had the suits custom tailored. Win-win. It’s a classic colored suit they can wear to work, interview, theater etc. and the wedding pictures looked fantastic.

We were advised early on by our photographer to buy not rent suits. The tailored suits are more flattering and not cheesey looking prom tuxes. They look fantastic in pictures since they actually fit each person to a T.

I’m so glad we did! The guys were comfortable, there was no running around the next day to return stuff etc. suits are the way to go for a semi formal or casual wedding.

We had it easy, we had a black tie wedding. Everyone had to wear a traditional tuxedo, that way I didn’t have to worry about colors or matching or renting anything. My husband bought his from Armani and his groomsmen either had their own already or purchased as well.

MrsMeowton: we tried to order from combatant gentlemen but they missed the window. We’re ordering from the rent the runway equivalent for men.

Forgot what it’s called though

Darling Husband got his from a local place in the mall. He spent about $400 for the suit, socks, shoes, tie, and handkerchief? It was a grey Calvin Klein suit. He had no suits so he splurged on a nice new one, a bt_237_(2)one stop shop kind of deal. I got my son’s suit from the same place. It was supposed to be $80, but was $40 because Darling Husband got his suit the same day from there.

The groomsmen were a different story… To keep it short, they purchased their own black suits. The Bridesmaid or Best Man got his suit for like $200, and the other groomsman already had a black suit hanging around.

We got a killer deal at Le Château for light grey suit pants with a matching vest, and it ended up looking great and was well within the budget of the groomsmen. Not sure where you’re located but if you’re in canada check them out, it was so much cheaper than a suit store.

Stephanie8904:  Which Etsy store did you get the suspenders and bow ties?  The original poster’s inspiration photos are very similar to what we’re thinking, only with a yellow/grey theme.. possibly gray pants, white shirt, yellow suspenders and bow tie.. or something along those lines.

Ours wore gray suits. Darling Husband bought his and his Best Man’s at Macy’s, my mom bought one for my brother, and our 3rd Groomsmen already had a dark gray suit. We told all the guys to wear white shirts, black ties, and black shoes. Worked out perfectly.

MrsMeowton:  We knew that we didn’t want to rent tuxes/suits – so it was decided that new suits would be bought for each Groomsmen – which was only 2, and then Darling Husband. We also extended the offer out to bot of our dads, as they both needed new suits anyway.

We went and looked at a local store and knew we wanted a charcoal grey, and Darling Husband wanted a vest. Once we saw what we wanted, and picked out the undershirt… it was all set!

The hardest was finding ties, but we eventually found 1 different one for Darling Husband, and then got the same for each Groomsmen, and then our dad’s got a different one.

MrsMeowton:  Our groomsmen have been told what to wear (navy blue suit, navy blue tie) and it’s up to them if they want to rent, buy or wear a suit that they already own. It’s pretty simple for the guys – wish it was as simple for us ladies!

Fiance will wear a light gray tuxedo and a navy blue tie and we’re buying his suit because he wants to (in case he can wear it again for another occasion).

TaraMay_:  Did you get the vest at Express too? I have been looking everywhere for a vest like this.

ugh. Groomsmen attire has been my least favorite part of planning this shindig. I showed Fiance pictures just like the OP’s inspiration pics and suggested the guys just wear whatever pants & shirts they already owned, but he really wanted to do a tux or 3-piece suit (I didn’t want to go casual with my dress, so I understand him not wanting to go casual on his end, either) and he wanted everyone to match.

However, bad experiences last time he was in a wedding and a less-than-helpful trip to MW convinced us to look into an alternate route. What we found was a hole-in-the wall local suit shop that was willing to sell us the grey 3-piece suits we liked for…$119 each! SWEET! (It never hurts to ask if they can work with you on price and we’re thrilled to save $40/suit!)

The catch: all five groomsmen, plus FI’s dad & brother, all live 4 hours away, so it’s been a bear trying to get them all to visit so that they can get fitted. I posted a while back and it looks like 2 of the five guys have officially made plans to come in a couple weeks, two are “doing what they can” and one simply refuses to “waste a whole weekend” driving here. *sigh*..we’re going to have to see if he can get his measurements done there and have the suit tailored based on his measurements…and then just pray that his suit fits when he shows up for the wedding.

If I had to do it all over again…I’d pick a department store that was located both here and there and give them all the style & color. Oh, well. I’m getting married one way or the other…I just have to pray the best man isn’t standing there in his boxers when that happens.

We went through Men’s Wearhouse and purchased the pants and shirts rather than renting tux’s. It was a big hassle, though. I am guessing our ordeal is not common, but I couldn’t tell you that for sure. We went in and picked out the pants we wanted and then the groomsmen and ushers were supposed to go in and get measured and order the appropriate size and have to go back one final time for fittings. Unfortunately, they ordered the wrong pants for every single person (including my husband’s $500 suit). So that was really f’ing annoying. We had to go back in again, pick out the pants again, and have all the guys go back in again to get measured and then a final time to get fitted. I am still not sure why they couldn’t have just used their first measurements to order the correct pair of pants, but whatever. At any rate, the boys purchased their shirts and pants for around $120 and then we bought their shoes, belts, suspenders, ties, tie clip, and socks as part of their gift. We also had some guys from out of town/state, so we dealt with 3 different store locations – I am sure that didn’t help our case. We felt better about the guys spending money on clothes they may actually be able to use again rather than just renting for one day.

I forgot to add – Men’s Wearhouse will create a “wedding group” or something to that extent for the party and will ask for all the guy’s names once you pick out the pieces. Then, their system will keep track of the sizes and everything. The guys just have to give a wedding or group ID or it can be looked up by name.
