I’m pretty busty, but I can wear a strapless just fine. I have a very awesome push up bra.

That being said, my preferred neckline is a strapless sweetheart (my wedding dress was this)

Followed by a halter or a V-neck

Straight across styles aren’t really good on me–i feel like they block my chest out and add weight there. I look like i have a fat chest, not a boob chest, haha.(aka this green bridesmaid dress)

scoop tank styles are good, too (the blue dress), like I always feel a tank top with thin-ish, 1″ straps and a scoop neck is flattering but not “here are my boobies!!!” like a halter can sometimes be

and goodness, NO empires and watch things that have a “bust line” underneath b/c those usually end up right across my nipples and i look ridic.

also if you want to go trendy, i can do a one-shoulder without popping out.

Seriously i spend a lot of time being concerned about how my boobs look, LOL. Every item I buy, gotta make sure they are in there good!

yeah i don’t dig strapless straight across styles. you can do a higher v-neck like this one (it was my TTD shoot) if you’re worried about her bustin’ out too. i felt like this was very modest in person but translated well to photos

sorry for the RIDICULOUS # of photos of me and my boobs =], hahaha.[attachment=1013173,125307]

I am also quite chesty and find the strapless sweetheart to be my favourite… I love the look of halter as wel, but wth the weight of my “ladies” halters can become quite uncomfortable, as it pulls down on the back of the halter, no matte rhow good the bra I use, or how supportive the dress.  Just a thought to consider.

it depends – is she a bigger girl with a bigger bust, or a small girl with a big bust? different things will work.

strapless works if it has structure to it (its one of my favs)

v neck is always flattering and allows the wearing of a good bra

NEVER empire waist – always makes bigger chested girls look preggers.

halters are hard on the neck – and make me look like a linebacker

I am a busty lady, and I agree with ejs.  Straight across is less flattering.  Anything that has a “traingle” style top tends to be a little pornstar-ish.  Halters can be good if they have enough fabric to cover the girls (hehe).  Strapless can be good, as long as she has a good bra, or there is support in the dress.  I think scoop neck is also flattering to a larger chest and you can wear a normal bra which is nice.  I am also a big fan of the sweetheart neckline and will be looking for that when I start wedding dress shopping!  Basically you want something that keeps the look that there are two nicely covered boobs and a bit of cleavage is ok – again avoiding the pornstar look!  Nothing that makes it look like you have a shelf across the front or a single boob…haha!

I actually really like strapless (but I have a good strapless bra, and they can be hard to find as a busty gal. Ask her how she feels about strapless.)  Anything V neck or halter can be hit or miss, because what would look like a little bit of tasteful cleavage on someone else looks totally slutty on me.  But spaghetti straps are the worst, because they don’t give you enough support on their own, but they don’t allow you to wear a bra.

Is there a reason you are just picking it out for her?  The easiest thing to do will be to let her try on some things and see what works.  Because “hit or miss” is really the definition of dress shopping for me…

The sweetheart strapless!  Definitely a good choice…and if she has already worn that kind of dress…see if you can find something like that!

I agree with spaganya that if it’s a really full empire waist, big boobed girls look pregnant.  I know because I am on the bigger-boobed side, and I had to wear an empire dress before that was gorgeous but flowed out a lot, and I looked fat in it.  The rest of the girls with little chests looked elegant and I looked like I was hiding a pregnancy.  The waist (or lack of it) was the culprit.  Some empire waists are not so bad though – I love the one in your friends’ picture.

@ms. teddy – she sounds like me – i wear a street size 8, with 32GG boobies with a bit of a tummy in front and NO arse!

the reason why you stay away from empire waist on big busted girls is the top for empire waists never cover the boobs fully, so they are bigger at teh bottom of the bust to accomodate, end up having a bigger bottom altogether giving the dredded muumuu look along with the uniboob look…. i would think a natural waist looks better – (keep in mind i hated the color but it wasnt too bad – didnt have to pull it up all the time or anything

heres my body shape (im not the bride in any of these photos):
