I used to be one of you. I used to hate working out more than ANYONE. But then I found my thing.
I LOVE yoga. Love, love love it! I started 3 weeks ago, going 5 times per week (I have to literally stop myself from going every day, so my muscles have time to rest and recuperate). I feel so energetic, destressed, and I’ve lost 11 pounds in 3 weeks without a diet change!
Before this, I would dread my workout all day. I went from a gym membership, to workout videos, to running outdoors to classes, and everything. I hated it all. Now I look forward to going, and it helps me really clear my mind, forget about clients, my never-ending to-do list, and any other anxieties I’m having.
Just thought I would write this to encourage any bees who felt like I did to give yoga a try.

@QueenOfSerendip: Good for you, and I believe in 100% of what you are saying. I think a common misconception is that in order to get a ‘good’ workout, once has to hit the gym…all the time. And, that may be loved by many out there, which is fine! But, for others, going to the gym is awful/boring/inconvienant, etc.
It truly is all about finding a workout that you enjoy doing, to keep you motivated to continue doing it!!! Working out should not be something you dread!!
Thanks for your post 🙂

I think that all of us who weren’t sporty as kids could say something similar about our chosen workout.
Don’t get me wrong, I love yoga, but it wasn’t until I took up old-school barbell strength training that I found something that really clicked for me.
I think the thing is that we should all try as many things as possible until we find something we love.

I’d like to try yoga sometime. I’m pregnant and I’ve only gone to prenatal yoga. It’s relaxing and all (sure there are benefits), but it’s not a workout. I’d like to try it again when I can really push myself to see if it’s something I would like.
But I do love to workout, I love running and the elliptical machine and hiking. The only thing I dislike is (most) workout videos.
People definitely need to try different things to find what they really enjoy! I’m positive everyone could find something!

I’ve always wanted to try yoga too. It’s hard for me to attend any yoga classes. Do you have any recommends on vidoes or websites to start off? Thanks again for the share.

I, too, love yoga! It’s totally not like any other workout! Which kind have you been doing? I go to 2 studios – one is vinyasa and one is bikram. LOVE!

I love yoga too. I have a lot of physical issues that make the hit it hard workouts cause me to be in pain for days or weeks. The sense of calm afterward is amazing and the jelly shaking muscle during is awesome too!
I really want to try bikram at some point but I hate how expensive yoga studios are!

Ughhh, I miss yoga! Classes are extremely expensive around here, and I’m still too new at it to feel very comfortable following along with videos at home. I felt amazing when I was going 4x a week!

I love yoga s well but I only od it once a week as I dont feel it is an intense enough workout for me to be doing the whole week only. I really enjoy running and wish I could do it more outside but the weather right now where I live is very cold and icy!

@QueenOfSerendip: The best workout is the one you do! Glad you found something you love.

I’ve done yoga off and on for a few years now. Just sporatic drop-in classes at first, then the FI and I took a beginner yoga together last fall to learn all the basics.
I tried HOT yoga last week and I’m in love. I live in the coldest place ever (well close) and I think HOT yoga is my thing for winter. You sweat like crazy and its good for weight-loss. You have to be careful and drink lots of water though! And boy, with all the heat, you sure become more flexible!

Omg I loved yoga. I did it for many years (I stopped when I moved out of state), and it was the best. I always looked forward to going. I need to start again, lol. Probably when I graduate college and don’t spend all my waking hours reading textbooks or writing papers.

@QueenOfSerendip: I’m a firm believer that EVERYONE can find an activity that they will love, whether it’s running, yoga, rockclimbing, hiking, spinning, etc!
I used to hate working out and everyone told me to try yoga. I hated it then, and I hate it now. Yoga does become a bit of a cult since so many people become obsessed with it. A lot of my friends are obsessed and I truly felt inadequate anytime I went to a class and disliked it. I also hate running, which tends to have a cult of its own.
It wasn’t until I discovered spynga (yoga and spinning), regular spin classes, Pilates classes, HIIT routines, and regular weight lifting that I realized that I do love being active. I seriously thrive on it! If I can’t find my way to a class or to the gym, I will pop in an Insanity or Jillian Michaels DVD because I literally crave exercise now.
Once someone finds the right routine for them, I’m sure they’ll come to love being active!
