i’ve had several facials and i worked at a spa for several years.  Personally, i have broken out at every single time I’ve had a facial.  While it makes my skin super smooth, I wouldn’t personally have one done any time near my wedding.

BUT, that’s just me.  Everyone’s skin reacts differently and i’m prone to acne.

I’ve never broken out but I always get red for a few days from the extraction.

I used to get faciels every few months when I was younger because I had acne.  I don’t have very sensitive skin so I didn’t have any sort of reactions from the products, but if you plan on getting extractions your skin will look a little inflamed for the following 24-48 hrs.  I would say 5 weeks is plenty of time, but the best way to decide would be to call the spa and ask if their products tend to make people break out after.  Some types of products as you probably know make your skin worse at first but then better.

@cherrycoke:  For me it wouldn’t be enough time.  But I think if your skin is normally very cooperative and you don’t have acne problems, you’ll be just fine.

I scheduled a facial five weeks before my wedding, and broke out, and my skin took a couple of months to recover. It felt nice the same day, though. Luckily it wasn’t too bad at the wedding, but it certainly wasn’t at it’s best. I have broken out everytime that I have had a facial, and to be honest, I don’t think I will go for one again. My skin is fairly sensitive, though, so it might just be me. But if my skin freaks out I figure that it’s trying to tell me something!
