@Ryansgirl:  I always play music and while focusing in one room I ” prep” another. Like, of I am cleaning the living room, I spray cleaner in the bathroom sinks/tub to force me into that room next… When I make it into the bathroom I may strip the beds and start something small in the bedrooms to force me into that room next. I have my method down … So now it doesn’t take much thought or extra time to “clean” multiple rooms at once!

I hate it too! Try putting on some fun dance music which will make you want to get up and move around. Tell yourself its only 5 minutes, often you will want to keep going, and if not, try to see how mich you can do on 5 minutes. Go get some yummy smelling cleaning supplies to make it seem less hateful.

@Ryansgirl:  Loud music and booze. Really. I hate to clean too. OR invite people over for dinner…that always motivates me!

I love cleaning! It’s really sad actually lol. When I have a day off of work I focus on cleaning first then do other things after that. I think if you played music or watched tv while cleaning it might make it a bit more enjoyable. I feel like some people just dont like to clean and that will never change so maybe that is you.

Loud music for sure! I also consider cleaning as exercise (aka dancing like a crazy woman to the music) which gives me a bit more motivation since I hate going to the gym 😉

@Mrs_Amanda:  Wow, great idea!

@WillyNilly:  That’s the only thing that can get me to do it – invite people over!

I have to play Glee, Beyonce or Adele when I’m cleaning. It’s the only way I’m motivated.

I turn up the radio like super loud, get in some boxer shorts and a cami and go! I just know if I think about too long it won’t happen. Once I get started I can’t stop because the house looks and smells so damn good. When I’m done I take a quick shower and knock out!

Do it in little increments.  Break it up by day so you don’t feel overwhelmed you have to do so much at 1 tine.  Example: Designate the floors to Monday (the wiping on them, you should sweep everyday).  Clean kitchen on Thursdays.  Bathroom on Saturdays.  Dust on Fridays. etc.

Big things like the windows and fridge can be done every month or every other month.

You do something everyday you can do the smaller upkeep tidying up everydya and it won’t be so much when you have to clean.

Three things – music, timer and a set schedule.

Music – anything that is making me happy that day.

Timer – set for 15 minutes, two times if I need that much time. That way, I tell myself “it’s only 15 minutes, surely you can handle 15 minutes.” Then I compete with myself to see how much crap I can get done in the 15 minutes.

Set Schedule – I took one of those weekly menu calendars and broke down all the weekly cleaning into six days of the week. I attempt to never clean or do laundry on Sunday, for my own peace of mind. Monday is the upstairs bathroom, Tuesday is the kitchen/laundry room, Wednesday is the downstairs bathroom, Thursday is the living room and dining room, Friday is the foyer, stairs and balcony area, Saturday is our bedroom. This way, I know that each room is going to get something done in it for 15 minutes or two 15 minute portions each week. It helps me to break it up and now that I’ve done this schedule for the past year, I can breeze through each room quickly.
