I haven’t shipped my wedding stuff as my wedding hasn’t happened yet, but I do sell other things off the internet quite regularly and what I do is put as much in flat rate boxes as possible, but if it’s something that doesn’t fit I go have it weighed to see how much it would ship to a specific location at the post office.

I think the shipping is the worst part. No matter if I try every kind of online calculator to figure it out, and have boxes packed and pre-weighed for me, the costs when actually mailing are always higher than I’ve estimated.  I also always get and ask for the cheapest way possible, but always end up short.

Packaging is also a problem for me, and I’ve used the flat rsate shipping boxes before but ended up going home to repackage or wrap the boxes to get cheaper shipping. Breakables are the worst. Light, easy to pack things are a breeze and mailing envelopes work well for those.

The falte rate boxes are a pain but it makes shipping affordable.
What Smyley said is right on, prepack and weight the box so you can use the online calculator or you can try to just sell local.  I just purchased some great things from a local bride and really appreciated the no shipping.

I even have a USPS scale I bought when I was  selling on Ebay. Every post office somehow seems to weigh things differently…even 2 people in the same office! Makes me crazy.

Selling locally is always a plus, but I seem to end up doing coastal mailings.
