Does waxing cause fewer ingrown hairs? When I shave, the tiny hairs grow back and give me crazy ingrowns and bumps all over. Very itchy and painful as it grows! I just trim with an electric shaver and make it super short so it’s stubble. I tried waxing once  with an at-home kit… ripped off half of a strip and OMG. Then I realized I still had to get the other half off. :'(

I’m going to second the waxing. My hair grows way slower, and doesn’t come in hard like shaving.

Plus, the place I go gives you a discount if you get brazilian and your legs, or arm pits done.

@Nurse_Bee:  I’ve had 1 ingrown hair from waxing in 6 years.  I used to get them from shaving everytime!

OP, my SO is the same way.  He never complains, per se, but the implication is there! Haha.  He prefers that I grow it out for a week, but the furry-ness bothers me.

@Nurse_Bee:  I have the same issue ): It makes me feel so gross afterwards.  Like “Ahhh no!  You’re supposed to be smooth!”

@Nurse_Bee:  The place I go does hard wax for a wax down there. Doesn’t hurt nearly as bad as strips. I sit and talk with her through the whole thing. And I still get ingrown hairs, but they don’t hurt. And they make cream called Finipil that really cuts them down.

i used to shave but like a lot of you, did not like the afterwards. I then waxed and since my sister worked at the salon ( i couldn’t go to her lol) i got a deal but it never stopped being really painful. I actually now use nair which i thought seemed nuts but my friend used it so i decided to try. it does smell nasty and feel slimy but once i get it off in the shower and do my normal washing the smell goes away and it is not bumpy or painful and it grows back slower and nicer then both shaving and waxing. just a thought.

I did a brazilian wax yesterday for the first time.  It was god-awful painful… but it wasn’t the hard wax (should have checked weddingbee first!)  It only hurt for a second when she yanked the strips and then it was fine.  I wasn’t sore when I left, a bit red for sure.  I’m definitely softer than when I shaved and I’m hopeful that I won’t get the bumps as well.  If I can avoid the itching and bumps of shaving, I’ll endure the temporary pain of waxing.  I just can’t stand shaving!  Afterward, I found a thread that mentioned using a lidocaine cream beforehand… will definitely be looking for that next time.

@jjmomma:  Make sure no sex for a day. And exfoliate after day 2. It’ll help keep the bumps down. Or so that’s what I’m told

@gogogiraffes:  Thank you!  Honestly, I’m a little scared to do the deed now (and my husband keeps giving me this look like “Can we now?!  How ’bout now?!)… I hope it’s true that the next wax will be easier.  She gave me Finipil (if I spelled it right), so we’ll see!

FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO WAX, DO NOT GET IT DONE 1WEEK +/- YOUR PERIOD!! maybe i’m just overly sensitive.

i used to get my waxing done at a beautician’s basement, she has the whole salon shabang in a separate room and only charged $15 + i’d give he $5 tip since she’s super funny and makes me laugh throughout the pain.

I can’t really afford it anymore or do the drive (it was pretty far, i only went when my sister went so i’d catch a ride with her) but now I just shave. SO doesn’t really care if i have a bush or not but for his sake i just shave the bikini line so i’m not to wild and untamed. Occasionally i’ll go bare and he appreciates the cleanness but am i the only one to feel like a prepubescent 10 year old?

@kerpao:  Nope.  Which is exactly the reason why I won’t go totally bald down there.  It’s not natural, and I want to look like a grown woman, not a child.   I told Fiance if he wanted that, I wanted him to shave his bits as well.  Luckily, he agrees with me.

Do not Nair “down there”!

It burns and it burns badly. I know this to be true because I’ve done it 7 or 8 times. It’s really hard to get your butt crack with a razor!

I’ve also tried other brands and they all burn.
