My hubby upgraded me in March. I had a .55ct and went to a 1.02ct. I was able to trade that old ring on the purchase price of the new one.

I had to downgrade to pay expenses for my dog’s surgery and to move for the second time this year because of apartments from hell.  BUT, my second ring turned out a lot cooler than the first, and was $2000 less, so I’m really thrilled we made that decision when we did.  He didn’t suprise me with anything this time around, but when he saw the ring finished on my finger and he saw how happy I was because of everything it meant to us, it didn’t matter that my first ring was gone.  Plus I put a pink tourmaline in my previous mounting, so I wear it to remember the engagement by.

We are upgrading my ring in the fall, so I have been looking. We got my ring at Kay and they allow you to trade it in as long as the ring you are buying is 2 times what you paid for the first one… I am still debating on if this is what I want to do, because the ring I have now has sentimental value, from the proposal. I guess we could do something special when I get the new one, to make it special too.

I got an upgrade for my 10th anniversary.  My original was an antique ring from a family member on my MIL’s side.  I loved the ring at the time but we only had it b/c we were too poor to afford anything.  But the ring had no meaning from his side of the family (I hated my Mother-In-Law…she treated me horribly…she has since apologized but it took her almost 10 years!).  It just had meaning b/c he proposed with it.  I wear it on my right hand sometimes (I love jewelry so much that I switch rings a lot).  I got a .72 solitaire in a Tiffany style setting, what I always wanted, for my upgrade last year.  I would love another upgrade at our 15th anniversary or 20th but I’m thinking of just putting the stone in a halo setting or add 2 stones to make it a 3 stone but I’m in no rush and not sure if I’ll ever do that.  I just LOVE jewelry so much!

Oh, and he didn’t propose exactly again but he did put a Lego “diamond” in a ring box and gave it to me.  (The ring was being made and he didn’t have it.)  ๐Ÿ™‚

@puppiekisses:  I love both rings but have to admit…I LOVE your new one!  ๐Ÿ™‚  And, I would have done the same thing as you did in a heartbeat!  I would do anything for my dog!  ๐Ÿ™‚

My fiance surprised me with a much better setting for my diamond.  As for my diamond, I am still very happy with it =)

Mine may qualify as an upgrade…? He proposed with a marquise solitaire so I could make my dream ring with it (no separate wedding ring – just the one). We turned over the diamond and they gave us exchange for the white gold and made us my beautiful ring. That was our plan all along:

My fiance proposed with a .25ct stone from his grandmother and placed it in a setting I picked out pre-proposal. Then on my next birthday he had got me an upgrade 1ct stone and had it placed in the ring. I knew something was up because he took my ring to the jewlers to get it “cleaned”. We plan on doing something with the famliy stone but it is pretty small and there is only one stone so we aren’t sure what to do with it,

I didnt read the first part of your question. NO he didnt surprise me because the stupid jeweler called our home number not his cell phone so I knew it was finally in. We did pick it out together tho.

It was my birthday too so we were going out to supper with the ppl that stood for us in our wedding and it would have been such a nice surprise but the freakin jewelery store screwed up!!!!

Pics are the link below and they dont look too much diff…..55 ct and 1.02 ct

We upgraded my ring in Apri by moving my center stone into a three stone setting. I am selling my old setting. No, he didn’t repropose. I was the one who initiated the upgrade so it wasn’t a surprise.

I didn’t really “upgrade” but I sold my old engagement ring during a time I felt my family could better use the funds than me have a ring. I still miss it, but love my new “Life is good” ring even more.

The diamond from my original e-ring is waiting to be put into a pendant.  I was going to reset it but I found out it has a crack right on the table surface so it will be safer in a pendant.  I still have the old setting.  Maybe I’ll offer it to one of my kids when they get older.  Darling Husband did not re-propose with my “upgeaded” ring, which was a family diamond that was given to us several years after we were married.
