What size stone are you planning on getting? If it’s over 1ct you should go with the enhancement if you are color sensitive. Fancy cuts (cushion, oval, etc) are usually warmer than rounds so the enhancement is worth it IMO. I have a 1.5ct amora round brilliant and I’m glad I got the enhancement.

How many mm is the stone? The larger the stone, the more colour it might show. If you are really concerned I would pick a place that actually hand picks theirs stones. Schubach’s for example can get the same setting and price match but it will be a more personal experience with someone chosing the stone for you.

They picked my 2.2 ct FB stone and it turned out to be beautiful! Still need to figure out how to post pictures here.

@cincilover:  With the larger cushion cut I would suggest you get the FB upgrade and when it is available upgrade that to the amora (you can do that if you order the FB during Feb while they restock the amora). I have a 6mm FB cushion and sometimes it is perfectly white, while others it is warm/greenish. That is the nature of Moissy. If I had the option for the Amora, I would probably take it.

What I really want is the Amora Gem. I can’t wait to get my hands on one of those babies.

@cincilover:  if you are worried then you should get the enhancement… But the biggest determinant for me in terms of how my moissy looks is the lighting and walls of the room around me. It picks up colors of its surroundings like crazy, so even though I know it’s very white from how it looks in white rooms, if I’m in a room with cream or beige colored walls it will look very warm.

    definitely get the enhancement.

    1) because it’s large

    2) because it’s cushion cut

here is a pic i took recently of enhanced vs non enhanced (same size 2 carat stone). They both look quite green/yellow here but it’s just the very overcast sky and weird lighting. the one on the right is Forever Brilliant.

@cincilover:  glad i could help. the pic is really not very good quality – taken with cell phone – but you get the idea 🙂

i bought FB and unenhanced because I wasn’t sure what I wanted, so I bought both loose then returned the unenhanced one when I saw how green it was.

@Lvitza:  At MoissaniteCo, we typically pick up the stones using tweezers as opposed to our fingers (hands), but does that count as ‘hand picking’? j/k 🙂

If you are referring to screening the stones for the best color and cut, we absolutely do that.

@cincilover:  For a fancy cut stone (which includes cushions), I would recommend a color enhanced stone if you would like the whitest stone possible.

There are a few places that work with moissanite that I found and sometimes you just have to ask (especially if you choose a custom work route)

I got tiny unehanced studs from Moissanite.com

I have smallish eternity from a former Montreal store LK Jewelery and I believe they are only on-line now http://www.promolk.com/

I got my 2.2ct FB centre stone from Schubach’s that I already mentioned. I’ll search through my list to see what other vendors work with moissanite.

I think for any larger size stones, I would go enhanced to be sure.

I just ordered my 1.5ct round moissanite last night from MCo. I say go with the upgrade. You won’t regret it.
