I compare a diamond vs moissanite emerald cut in person. I think in general the emerald is a “less obvious” moissanite cut because there’s so much less faceting to reflect light. Both diamond and moissanite emeralds just look like pretty stones that are much less in your face sparkle than, say, a princess cut.
But, at certain angles, the moissanite did reflect one very long “laser beam” rainbow prism of light off the long step cut (the inner rectangle at the bottom of the stone) that made it super obvious it was not a diamond. I personally wasn’t trying to pass it off as a diamond and like the rainbow effect, but it’s definitely there and more obvious because it’s such a large reflection area.

I have only seen the F1 online but they always seemed too colorful and too white. I went with Forever Brilliant, which is being set as a solitaire now. I liked the warmer tone too & it just seemed to be more like a diamond but again I only saw the F1 online. I’ll post pics when it’s done (another week or 2).

I know the Harro gem can be cut with or without Windmills in the emerald cut. I also asked Kristin Coffin about emerald moissanite and she said the reason they usually aren’t cut with windmills is because of the properties of the stone- can’t cut the same way as diamonds, so a better cut for emerald moissanite is without windmills.
I asked Vancouver moissanite as well about the Harro gem and that’s the same info they gave me about the windmill vs no Windmills.

I have an 8×6 Forever Brilliant Near Colorless (G-H) Emerald Cut from moissaniteco.com and I love it. True, it doesn’t have windmills, but there are a lot of emerald cut diamonds out there that don’t have windmills either (I think) — especially antique ones. I can’t imagine anyone noticing or caring. The 8×6 size is believable and easy to wear. I am very happy with it and would get the same stone again. Of course, as soon as I ordered it they came out with a bunch more settings to choose from, but I am happy with my choice and wear it daily. My friend thinks it cost over $7,000! Hee! Hee! 🙂
