- Wedding: July 2010 - Amy's Manor
I’ve been following WeddingBee for at least a year (probably more like two…sssh!) and have loved reading all of the wonderful stories and incredible ideas the Bees have shared. I love the wedding industry so I was happy to fill my down time with blog stalking on the WB. I was in no big rush to get engaged or married even though my boyfriend (Justin) and I had been together since 2003. We were happy, in love and enjoying life. Our families and friends, however, were all very interested to know what our next steps were.
I really should have seen it coming but honestly I just didn’t. We really enjoy cruises – it’s our favorite kind of vacation – so we planned for one during the second week of February to a new exotic locale: Western Caribbean! We were slated to leave from New Orleans on Feb 8 and hit Costa Maya, Mexico, Santo Tomas de Castilla, Guatemala, Belize City, Belize and Cozumel, Mexico for a week of bliss!
How it happened: He called my Mom (parents divorced when I was young and she raised me – dad has passed) and asked for her blessing just a few short days before we were leaving for the trip (probably one of the most special things he could have done). She was thrilled and honored that he called to include her and fill her in on the surprise. We flew from Arizona to New Orleans to board the ship. When we arrived at the airport, I called her to let her know we were safe and sound and ready to go on vacation! She asked me to call her from the ship and tell me what it was like…although I thought this was a little strange (we’ve been on many cruises), I didn’t think much of it. We arrived on the ship and began exploring, I figured that was a good time to call her. She asked how it was and if we were having fun, yada yada and then asked if we had been to our room yet. I told her we hadn’t and that was pretty much it. We hung up shortly after and I promised to call her as soon as we were back.
The rooms were ready and we walked down the hallway looking for our number. When we got to the door, he insisted on putting his card into the slot so I stood by waiting to get in. He opened the door a crack and then said "You know, why don’t you go first so I can get our bags and stuff in here." So I walked on in…
In front of me were roses…everywhere! There were 5 dozen roses in our room (one for every year we’ve been together), the smell was absolutely wonderful and I began to get really confused (seriously can’t believe how clueless I was). I first blurted out "Wha? What the?" and then turned around to face him and was planning to say "I think we’re in the wrong room" but as I turned around…he was there, down on one knee holding a tiny box in his hand. I just couldn’t believe it! I was completely shocked!! He asked me to marry him and it was one of the most wonderful moments of my life.
After a few minutes, after the shock wore off – the tears started flowing and I can still remember the feeling, even as I type. It’s an amazing feeling to know you are spending your life with your best friend and someone who is so very important and special to you.
So we only had time for a few calls – my Mom, his Mom and my cousin (who is like a brother). I also finally realized why my Mom was so interested in our cruise and our room! Justin told me he wanted to propose at the beginning of the trip so we could still call our families and friends before we lost service and so that we could celebrate for the entire week! We ended up calling our trip our E-moon (Engagment Moon) and had an incredible time with people constantly congratulating us. We were pulled into lots of fun games on the ship and it was the best week of my life!
I’m thrilled to start wedding planning and am so excited to have entered this new and exciting time – we have so much to be thankful for and I’m really looking forward to all that the future holds for us. And now…for some quick pics! 🙂
