Engagement announcments are really not too popular now-a-days, I don’t think.  I don’t think I’ve ever seen them on this board actually!

Maybe someone else could be of help?

You pretty much could make it like a Save the Date, but not really.  I guess most people now a days just use the STD as their engagement announcement.  Maybe look at some of those for some inspiration?

If you check out some stuff on engagement announcements on google – such as this   – they actually say you need to be careful about doing the mailout kind.  I’ll quote:

“This is a very traditional way of announcing your engagement, but it’s one that should be used cautiously. You’ll need to be sure that anyone who receives an engagement announcement will also be invited to the wedding, and that it won’t be mistaken for an invitation. Still, if the idea of beautiful cards sharing your good news is too delicious to resist, go to your local stationery store. You can word them however you wish, but typically wording is similar to what appears in a newspaper announcement. If you include your wedding date, it can double as a save-the-date card.”

@FreckledFox:

I would just sort of combine them into the e-party invite, then.  You don’t really need to say “Mr and Mrs are deligted to announce the engagement of their daughter to …..”  if you’re following up with “Come to the party!”

Make it a party invite and everyone will understand πŸ™‚

@FreckledFox:

Thats pretty informal, in my opinion. Which is okay!! But I thought you said you wanted them to be more formal-ish?

The engagement announcements that people send in the mail are usually worded very formally, moreso like a wedding invitation with the brides parents going first.

I thought that was more the feel you were going for, but maybe i just misunderstood your post.

Do you have a design yet? Post a photo or 2.

FI’s mother and grandmother wanted to do a newspaper announcement, but we never got around to it.  Everyone pretty much found out from phone calls, facebook, and word of mouth.

@FreckledFox:  Good choice!  The party invites will be just fine.  I think your 2nd design you posted yesterday would work well for them!
