personally I wouldn’t do this unless you pick the designer, because the color won’t match, and I think that looks really sloppy.  There are a lot of bridesmaid dress designers that carry tons of styles at a reasonable price point.  That is what I ended up doing.  We all decided to go shopping together for fun, and everyone ended up picking the same dress anyways.. haha- go figure

CallMeMrsG:  It depends on what you are looking for – if you want a more uniform color/texture look, then I think you have to find a single designer.  But I personally think something like this looks lovely: http://www.pinterest.com/pin/355714070538151531/

You just have to be ok with the fact that the colors and textures are going to be different.

Have you checked out Davids Bridal for their bridesmaid dresses? I know that you can get a ton of dress styles from there in the same colour, and I believe they are reasonably priced.

CallMeMrsG:  I know people who have done this successfully but it has the potential to be a disaster – especially with a colour like champagne.  If you did shades of blue or green it would work.  Champagne is iffy.

My girls all picked out a dress from the Dessy Group. They just had to be long chiffon and in a blush/neutral color (and yes, champagne was included). Turned out well and everyone felt comfortable. You just have to be okay with all the colors not matching exactly. I tied all the dresses together with a matching necklace and bouquet.

CallMeMrsG:  I really don’t like identical outfits on people, esp adults. I asked my girls to pick colours that complemented each other and dresses that were the same length (either long or short). These were their picks and suited our laid-back, tropical Destination Wedding perfectly! They are from Bari Jay and one is crinkle chiffon, one is regular chiffon.

I let my two girls pick their own dresses, as I knew one style wouldn’t flatter both of them – this way it flatters them and makes them feel comfortable and beautiful!

All I asked was that it was Alfred Angelo, long, chiffon, and in Mediterranean Blue.

Each one was able to find one that worked for them well. They’re both strapless, but different styles.

CallMeMrsG:  The brides I know who have done this successfully had to have some control over the dresses, and put that expectation up front by asking the bridesmaids to send pictures of the dresses they wish to purchase in advance.  If you go this route, do be prepared to help them find dresses – while some bridesmaids will love the freedom, some may find it stressful and time consuming to find a dress in a specific color, so offer to pitch in on the search!

i was just a bridesmaid in a mismatched wedding party- i included a picture. honestly, it looks nice but it was a pain in the ass to find a dress in the color palette, and many of the girls procrastinated to the last minute. i ordered 4 dresses and returned them before i found one i liked. while it was cheaper (my dress ended up only being $40), i would have almost liked it better if it was easy and i just ordered a dress the bride picked, or at least had some sort of guideline other than just a color.

CallMeMrsG:  No– actually all of them were purchased at David’s.  I think the two middle Bridesmaid or Best Man are just David’s brand, but I do know my sister (the one in black and pewter- which was what the Groomsmen wore) is a Vera, and my SIL on the end (redhead) is a Vera as well.  Each of the girls chose thier own dress- and obviously black was the color LOL My sister got to wear black and pewter because she was Maid/Matron of Honor and it went well with everything, and I absolutely loved her dress.
