I’m a little more than 10 days away from being with my SO again and I know that he’ll be proposing when he’s up here, sometime within the 12 days that we’re in NY before I move down to live with him. To occupy some of my time and do something a little fun I’ve been playing around with manicure ideas that’ll suit graduation, the parties going on, and being able to display the ring everyone will ask about. Currently I’m trying the “ring finger is a different color” trend but I’ve had mixed reactions from people. I’m not usually one for makeup or fashion but it’s on my list of things I want to improve about myself so, any suggestions for a Formerly Plain Jane?

@Zephi: Instead of doing the ring finger in a different color, could you possibly try something more subtle? For example, you could add a glitter gradient to your ring finger or paint your ring finger in the same color, but different finish (metallic or glitter). You could also try painting a small chevron/triangle at the tip of your nail in a different color. I’ve seen this in magazines and on Pinterest.

I’m not a huge fan of the different color for the ring finger. It kinda screams “look at me”, and everyone’s going to see the bling anyway 🙂 I normally have a pretty basic manicure for work, but for parties I like playing with finishes. Metallic shows flaws, sparkly hides them better. So if you’re doing it yourself, I’d go with a pinky sparkly polish. You don’t want it to pop SO much that it takes away from the ring.

Well after experimenting a bit, I’ve figured out I don’t even have basic nail polish skills. Did my nails at 1 in the afternoon, went to bed at 10:30, woke up with pillow impressions and smudges the next morning. My aunt told me to try Seche top coat so I’m picking that up sometime this week. I’m going to just go with a plain light pink for the next few weeks, maybe put a light sparkle on it at some point.

@Zephi: Try putting on thin coats and leave al least half an hour between them. It takes onger but you won’t mess them up. Also, if you don’t go quite all the way to the edge they look longer 😉
