eecuadrado:  I think the concern is that the cow’s milk should NOT replace breastmilk or formula, since nutritionally it isn’t balanced for a baby (with the right amount of protein and fat, etc). So a little bit is fine but breatmilk or formula needs to be the primary source of nutrition until your son is one year old.

I would talk to your doctor and not rely on what bees say. Each child is different.  If you feel and your doctor okays it then go for it.

I would ask your pediatrician. Our doctor gave a different reason for waiting till 1 year to introduce milk than what MrsAKSkier gave you.

I would just take your doctor’s advice and then ask all caregivers to stick to it.

eecuadrado:  I would hold off on the cow’s milk until then, in that case.

My son is 10 months now and my pedetriation says to give my son 1 sippy cup of whole milk a day. He said it is best to give breastmilk but he is going to be one soon so it is fine and at 11 months give him 2 sippy cups of milk a day and see how he reacts to it. My son likes it but prefer breastmilk over whole milk. I thought it was too soon too but since the pediatriation recommended I say what is the harm in it?

I would not give it in replacement of formula or breastmilk but I don’t think there is harm to use it for other things.  I mix milk (I used almond milk though) with oatmeal for my LO.  My pediatrician said this was fine at 9mo appt- but not in replacement of formula/breastmilk.  Cow’s milk does not have the same nutrition as formula or breastmilk.  I wouldn’t see as much wrong with it if baby was closer to 1 but 9mo is still pretty far away.

I was exclusively Boyfriend or Best Friend and at 10.5 months I started giving my son a sippy cup of whole milk in the afternoon. I wanted to wean him completely by 12 months, so we could TTC again. He completely refused to take a bottle or drink any type of formula. By 11 months, he was getting a second cup of milk at bedtime and only Boyfriend or Best Friend once in the night and not at all during the day. At 12 months, he started sleeping through. I did discuss this plan with my doctor and he was happy with it.
