I took a different road home for lunch today and saw a bulldog walking around the front of someone’s yard and close to the road. It isn’t a main road, it connects two big roads and is a very busy road for my neighborhood. I stopped to make sure he didn’t get hit. At first he had this scared look and I didn’t know if he would run or attack. He started wagging his tail (well the little nub) and come over to me. He was so friendly, kinda chubby, and had healthy skin for a bulldog. I knew he had to be someones pets, but there was no id tag. He and I walked up and down the road for 20 minutes trying to retrace his tracks in the snow and knocking on peoples doors to see if he was their’s or knew whose he was. No luck. So, being a huge animal lover I brought him home. My 3 dogs were going crazy trying to get to him in the back yard. I posted a facebook and craigslist ad before having to head back to work. I seperated my dogs, put him in a kennel and left, hoping someone would see the ad and contact me. I had just left my house and was driving through the neighborhood and stopped this random guy walking his dog and asked if he knew anyone who had or was looking for a bulldog. He told me yes, and asked if I knew this person and said she was looking for someone else. It was my great aunt looking for my 2nd or 3rd cousin! My extended family lives all over my neighborhood! I was so excited. We rent our house from my aunt so she was able to go over and identify and return the dog!! I was so excited!!!
The best part, other than finding the owner, is when I checked my email to see if anyone had responded to my ad, I had to different organizations contact me with ways to help. They gave me places to post more ads, places that could check microchips, and one said that it would be helpful for me to keep the dog, but offered to do so until we found the owner. This has made me appreciate those people who do this full time and makes me feel so much better that there are good people in the world. Just some good news I wanted to share!!!
