This morning on my way to work I was approaching an intersection near a forest preserve with a stop sign and each time a car stopped an animal small and long would run from the other side of the street and sit by the driver’s side door. Every time, the car would drive away and the dog run back across the street. It was a small little doggo. I made sure no one was around and parked and got out of the car.
The dog instantly came up to me and sat at my feet. It then walked around my car and sat at the door. I opened the door and it tried to get in. I called out to anyone to see if someone was around. No one. I stood with the dog at my feet for about 6 minutes. I called non-emergency and they said they could send a car or I could bring it in.
I put my hand down to the dog gentle and she nuzzled in and licked it. So I picked her up (muddy little thing) and put her in my back seat where she laid on the floor and didn’t make a peep. I dropped her off at the police station by wrapping her in a blanket from my trunk and carried her like a baby into the station. She didnt bark or growl or whine. Just relaxed in my arms (I think her little head smelled like dog shampoo).
The police said they’d bring her in to be checked for a chip and to find her owners. I made it clear that if they didn’t find them then I’d like to be notified b/c we could take her.
I hope she finds her family! I hope if she doesn’t have a family then Darling Husband and I could make her part of ours. How could people just NOT STOP?! She was clearly running up to cars looking to be let in.
Pics of her (I’m thinking of her as Wendy, the lost girl)
And her riding shotgun with the police on the way to a rescue where they will house and care fo her while they see if her family comes forward:

What a cutie! You did the right thing! My dog is a trouble maker, and I could see her running away accidentally and getting lost. She’s a beautiful dog though, so I could see someone keeping her and not checking further (although she’s microchipped).

bouviebee : Oh trust me I WILL!! She made a huge impact on me in that short time. Once I pulled over and stood with her she stopped running to other cars and just seemed like he was grateful. I can’t believe the other cars that didn’t stop. She was clearly in need and was like “Oh!! You’re stopping for ME!! I’m right down here! Hello!”

What an expressive face! I hope that she has a family that is worried about where she is and that she has not just been abandoned. From the photos she looks in pretty good shape. If they can’t locate her owners then she has found the perfect new owner in you. Obviously you are caring and compassionate. I wish there were more people like you in the world.

Wow… good for you for taking her in. Hopefully her family finds her. I’m sure they are missing her swèet face. I might have had a hard time bringing her in. I would have hid her away in my basement. JK.

somathemagical : What a little cutie! Good for you for stopping and making sure she got to safety. While it sounds like she’s been trained enough to not get too close to cars, accidents still happen. I hope that she’s either reunited with her family (and that she got out by accident rather than being abandoned) or that she can join yours. Best of luck!

OMG too too cute, so she didn’t have any ID tags on? She looks like she had a family and I’m praying she just lost and they didn’t dump her. Please keep us posted I really want to know her outcome.
