Hey July 2011 ladies, I’m just curious if any of you have gone to try on dresses yet, or have actually found a dress, yet? Now that the date is almost a year away, I’m starting to feel like it’s time to get serious. It’s exciting and daunting.

I am so reluctant to try on a dress yet for fear that I will buy too soon. I really don’t want the fun part to be over. I might wait till Fall.

I’m getting married the month before in June, and I just bought my dress. I was the same way though b/c I DID NOT want to buy my dress this early. BUT I did want to try some one. I went to like 10 different stores and it was super fun b/c I had no intention of buying, just getting ideas. Well then I went to one store and just fell head over heals in love with my dress. It was totally THE dress for me, out of the hundreds I had tried on none made me feel like that one did. Then the lady told me it would take 6-9 months to get the dress in if there weren’t any problems and I would need alterations b/c it was going to be too big. So for me getting the dress this early was kind of a necessity. I don’t think theres any harm in looking. It’s really fun and now that I have the dress its amazing how many other things are falling into place. Sorry this was so long!

I started shopping in January, and I just bought my dress! 🙂 But it’s a private label and may take 12 months (holy cow!) to come in, so it was important to get it a little early.

Went and looked around when I was on a business trip in May, but with no intentions of committing so early — that being said the shops I visited were pretty terrible in regards to customer service (ageist/rude/snarky & generally just unpleasant), so even if I had been looking ‘seriously’ I wouldn’t have purchased from those stores.
*note: the consultants didn’t know that I wasn’t going to buy one that day, what they don’t know can’t hurt them, so they didn’t really have a ‘reason’ per se to be rude.
I’m looking forward to the fall collections to come out, so I have more options as well.

Mine is June 10, 2011. Already fell in love with Adorae (Sottero Midgley). However, would like to wait until Fall 2010 collection is out. Just to make sure I’ve seen it all. Will ordering my gown by October this year at the latest! In case anything goes wrong with ordering/manufacturers I still have enough time for plan B…GOOD LUCK!

I’ve been shopping since February! I have found a dress I really like (you can refer to my rant over on the dress board) but since I have time, and the fall collections will probably start hitting stores in late July/August, I’ll wait to try to see a few more before I make a real commitment. Which isn’t to say I won’t keep looking between now and then..tee hee. I’m just having too much fun with it!

I’m planning to go dress shopping with my mom the second week in September. In the meantime I’ve been looking at different stores and boutiques in Toronto and the designers/dresses that they carry. I can’t wait to actually try some on!!! 🙂

I need to loose 20pounds of stress weight before I go trying or even thinking about gowns LMAO

@BFRANK2584: I always thought that too, but samples at the stores are guaranteed to fit funky no matter what size you are, so I wouldn’t wait too long just because of a number on the scale. Go have fun! And if you lose the weight before the wedding, you can have your dress altered. 🙂

@Gemstone: Yeah I will go and find out what my cut is if nothing else that’s fun!
I will not be buying my dress in Chicago though I need to have my girls and momma with me so somewhere on the east coast will definitely be where I purchase. But you are right the dresses are usually funky anyway (lol)

As I just posted in another July thread…YES! I found my dress this weekend! SO excited.

I bought my dress about 7 weeks ago – I had absolutely NO intention of buying a dress this early but on my third shopping trip, I tried on a dress that I KNEW was the dress before I even saw it in the mirror. As soon as it was zipped up, I said to my consultant “I think this is the dress” and once I saw it in the mirror and got my mom/friends’ opinions, the deal was sealed. Now I just feel relief that I have a dress that I absolutely love and it’s one less thing to stress over!

I purchased my dress already and my wedding is not until November 11, 2011. Heres the deal though. They were going to discontinue my PERFECT dress. So my SugarBear (FI) said go ahead and get it. So I did.. And Im happy I did. I also got it on sale so it was 200 cheaper and I am getting to pay it out over the next few months. Alfred Angelo bridal shop is amazing.

I tried on dresses in February, but even a trip to LA didn’t lead me to the right dress :-[. I’m hoping my second trip up there for the Enzoani and Essense of Australia trunk shows will lead me to the one! I don’t mind buying a year out if its “the one”, and who knows if I’ll fall in love with a dress that takes 9 months to ship.. I figure I’m being safe by giving in and shopping early
