To be devil’s advocate…How sure are you that he will propose? If you have recently talked about it then yay! Please share when it happens! If not… be careful. Hate for you to get super excited and it be a lovely pair of earrings.

I knew he had a ring in his filing cabinate but did not look, I wanted it to be a surprise. I have heard of a few ladies on here who looked and it not turning out well.

Just think how would he feel if he found out you ruined the surprise for yourself.

I knew he had a box as well – but didn’t look, wasn’t interested in looking – mostly cause I thought it would have ruined the surprise for me! So glad I didn’t look!

Word of caution:  earrings come in boxes the same size.  Brace yourself on how to react if it’s not a ring.  A friend forbade her now husband to give her any gifts in ring sized boxes unless it was THE ring, to prevent her getting her hope up and being disappointed by a very pretty gift.

Isilme:  OP said the paperwork with the box states it’s a ring.

palebluepetals:  doh, missed that.  Still, I like to warn people.  Also, FIs little brother gave his now wife a ‘test ring’ on her birthday to see if he had her size and taste right, THEN went and got an engagement ring to propose a few months later on their anniversary.  Just sayin, it’s best to be aware than disappointed.

Don’t open it! He deserves to see your face the moment you first see it. Very exciting.

I didn’t open it only because it was locked in the safe. I may have peaked if it was out… if you have to tell him you saw theres a box and he needs to hide it better!! Ahh fingers crossed.

I’m surprised how many Bees on this site admit to snooping for rings, snooping through phones (for various reasons etc). FWIW I would be upset if my partner invaded my privacy. Granted I would be more upset if he did it out of mistrust or insecurity than if he did it because he was snooping out of curiousity/ impatience for a surprise, but snooping is still snooping. Please don’t let it be part of your relationship, I can see it doing more harm than good if he finds out you’ve been snooping for your ring (and if you saw the receipt you also know what he paid for it, if he got a sale price yada yada yada, which maybe it wasn’t his intention for you to know). Please don’t look at it- you don’t want your first memory of seeing your ring to be something you did behind his back, you’ll feel a moment’s pleasure admiring the ring and happy knowing a proposal is imminent, but then guilt and regret for having first seen it in this manner.

lrk1203:  Couples picking out their ring together is completely fine & not the same thing at all as snooping. One involves teamwork, one involves deceit.
