This ring sounds on the big side compared to mine and what some of my friends have. Maybe your Boyfriend or Best Friend thinks you are more subtle in your tastes than you are/than your friends. I agree with PPs, it sounds like you need different friends, not a different ring. Why are you friends with superficial assholes that would actually gossip negatively about your Boyfriend or Best Friend giving you a diamond ring?

Curious as how you “accidentally found” this ring when it was hidden in a shoebox… tongue-out

It sounds like he spent the extra money to get a perfect diamond for his perfect woman. After you’re engaged and high from the proposal, you’ll be elated with how beautiful it is.

My fiance bought me a 1.07 carat ring, round. I’ve recieved comments like “what a cute dainty ring”, but I don’t care because we picked it out together and it’s perfect for us! Screw what everyone else will think.  It’s not about them.

Good luck, bee <3

I think emerald cuts are beautiful. The ring sounds stunning and I would tell the snobby girls to go **** themselves. Their relationships must suck if the size of their ring is their biggest worry. What shallow and empty lives they must live. Eugh!

Emerald cut rings are so classy! They do tend go face up smaller than other cuts though and tend to be more expensive than other cuts if you want a clear stone without major inclusions. You can always get a ring enhancer as a wedding band or just a super blinged out band to pair with it. Screw what your “friends” say.  They don’t sound like very good friends of they’re petty enough to talk about your ring size behind your back.

goldilocks101 :  I understood what you meant about the band. It’s about wanting to opt out of the whole “bigger is better” mentality. I do think your ring sounds incredibly classy though. As some other posters have said, you may feel much differently about it once it’s put on your finger in that special moment.

You say you’d be happy with a plain band but wouldn’t your friends have more negative things to say about just a band than an actual diamond? In your post you said you care about what some of your friends would say behind your back. If they would say something negative about a .81 emerald cut I feel like they would say something about the plain band.

Emerald cuts are beautiful. I wish I had one to show the size, but they do show a little smaller than other shapes, but it’s a very elegant shape. If you said your boyfriend wouldn’t be offended if you say you don’t like it, when he proposes and you aren’t happy with it then I think you should tell him. Hopefully they ring would still be able to be returned. Keep us posted!

hafh2016 :  Actually, EC’s face up much smaller than rounds bc more of the weight is in the bottom.
