I have small hands, size 5, and I love emerald cuts. I’ve done a good deal of comparison shopping and can tell you a .8 ct stone is a great size, and they don’t come cheap!! If you want to measure yourself, you’re looking at about 5-7mm L x 5-6 mm W. Congratulations!

goldilocks101 :  it was in response to someone who said wearing a ring with pride is the best way to shush the naysayyers – and its really a good point! Nothing would make me happier than wearing the most simple ring to prove the point that I am happy regardless

I still don’t understand, why do you have to totally sack off the ring he got you to prove you’e happy?  Why can’t you just be happy with the diamond he bought you?

Emerald cuts generally look quite a bit smaller than their ‘stated’ weight, so I wouldn’t worry that he overpaid – especially since with emeralds, you can’t really sacrifice on the other C’s (cut and clarity most importantly) without the diamond looking pretty terrible. He got you an expensive cut, and probably a very high quality diamond. Rings also look so much smaller in a box than on your finger – I’d wait until it’s on your hand before you start to worry too much.

ETA: just read your update, looks like you figured out everything I just told you. Congrats on the upcoming engagement!

msop04 :  huh! As an EC owner, I feel like a dummy for having it the other way around in my head, especially since it makes a LOT of sense! I’m far from being a diamond expert though 😉
