Went to Dolly Couture today while I was in LA for thanksgiving. I wasn’t positive that I wanted a short dress & was struggling with my dress being cute/short or sultry/long.
Well, after I tried on a few something just clicked & I could totally see bits & pieces of each dress combining to make my own custom dress (which they do alot of).
So without further ado, here is my dress- you’ll have to use a bit of imagination until I get my mockup/drawing in a week or two:
-First up is the skirt example- the skirt will be this style but with the polka dot fabric pictured overlaying the satin ///
Then next is the same skirt style just polka dots & the same top style but with the polka dot sheer overlay pictured in the first image instead of the clean sheer fabric. Hanging right off-shoulder with a sweetheart neckline underneath & with a low V-back ////
And I’m topping it all off with a colored petticoat peeking out underneath (not the color pictured) and a sash with a brooch! ///
I am so excited & can’t wait to see the drawing when they get it done in the next few weeks! Even better is that with all the alterations/customizations the initial quote was only $350!! We left the shop feeling elated–waay under budget–& well cared for!

Yay! My drawing is in after a little bit of confusion (they thought I was going to contact them when I was ready to order & I thought I was waiting on them to order).
They got pretty close but it’s still not quite there yet….
So I changed the drawing a bit – my changes are in red- to lower the sheer neckline & widen it so it hits the edges of my shoulders & the straps aren’t so wide & also to make the back lower…. The way they have it now it’s a zipper back but I think I’m going to see how much they’ll charge for a button up back instead (that would be so much prettier than a darn zipper!)
For whatever reason they didn’t catch that I wanted polka dots allover so I’m asking them to fix that… also here’s a picture I’m sending them to give them an idea of how I want the back of the dress
It turns out the girl that setup my quote (intern filling in while the sales rep was out sick) gave me the wrong price of $375 (she only gave me the price for customization’s not the dress itself) so it’s more expensive (with the first drawing i’m at $996) than I thought it would be but still not really over what I was planning to spend for a regular bridal gown. At least they offered to rush order it for me for free for the mixup…
But I’m not so sure now how I feel with the whole ordering mixup, getting my quote so grossly wrong, and missing key details like that I wanted polka dots allover & a low sexy back. I thought I was getting a steal and was super happy about it but now that I’m not and am paying what I would consider the top of my budget (ie full price) with alterations & cleanings that puts me around $1,500 I’m guessing.
What do you bees think?
