Going dress shopping has been more of an emotional journey than I expected. At first the idea of being so far from my family and close friends was really hard to swallow, not to mention the stlye of dresses aren’t the same as in the States. Then I had to tell myself to knock it off – not only do I now have family in France, but I get to shop in the fashion capital of the world.
I got engaged around mid October, but because I was writing my thesis for graduate school I couldn’t justify going dress shopping before it was finished….but it didn’t stop me from doing a lot of online dress stocking, or going to a bridal show. I fell in love with the dresses from Linea Raffaelli after seeing the fashion show, and couldn’t wait to try some of them on…ok, I guess technically I waited a month to try them on, but I did a lot of daydreaming in the meantime.
I am not super close with my FSILs partly due to the language barrier. In French I can’t always say exactly what’s on my mind, and that makes it a little difficult to build solid friendships. But, I figured these wonderful women were going to be in my life permanently, so I asked them to join me. I was really touched how excited they were to come – I mean, there is a lot of sitting around watching me try on dresses, I’m grateful they were there! Although I had to push them to be honest with me if they didn’t like something, it wasn’t the time to just be nice!
Anyways, I’m pleased how it all worked out. I ended up buying my online dream dress, and got 10% off too! I’ll be having a garden wedding, and this was a good combination of a long and short dress. The style is a little more risky, but I love how it is classy and unique. So, here is my wedding dress:
