I was excited to find a really sweet dress second-hand, but then had no-one to share it with. Then I realised that the forums are here, and others planning an engagement party might be excited for me! Haha.
Scored this dress for $35:

I will be wearing it with stockings and a cardigan, because the engagement party will be in Winter. But it was too cute to pass up!
What did everyone else wear to their engagement party?

ladyartichoke : Well, you don’t have to! You can wear whatever you feel like wearing.
I just:
A. Wanted an excuse for a new, pretty dress; and
B. Have lost 56kg, so my current nice dresses are too big around the top.
You do you!
We’ve got it coming up in June, when his dad returns from overseas.

It’s really pretty and I love the colour. We didn’t bother with an engagement party.

blackparadebride : Congrats to you for the weight loss! I hope you feel better for it and more comfortable in yourself. Definitely a reason to dress shop. (I’m a bit cautious to say well done because my brother’s sister-in-law’s husband dissuades her from eating and she’s got a lot of health problems because of her low weight)

Our engagement party was very informal, basically a cookout with a cake with our names on it. I wore a bikini!

becks90 : Thank you! And engagement parties definitely aren’t for everyone. I just like the excuse to get together with loved ones for a night of food and drinks!
ladyartichoke : I definitely understand that, I often don’t say well done unless I am 100% sure on the circumstances. I was morbidly obese, and still actually sit in that category. The weight has been lost through specialist support and in a healthy manner, with the end goal being health and not appearance, so it’s been great for me! Thank you!
Though I am sorry to hear about your sister in law, that’s terrible.
knotyet : Ours won’t be formal either, just friends and family in a hall with some home-cooked foods, home-made wine, beer and soft drink! Haha, no bikini in winter for me!

blackparadebride : It’s a pretty dress! I’m sure you’ll get a lot of wear out of this one, it seems very versatile.
Congratulations on the weight loss, that is incredible!

anabee323 : Thanks so much! I really wanted a simple dress that could be used for multiple occassions, so this was perfect.

blackparadebride : nothing wrong with finding an excuse to buy a new dress. I sometime do too! I’m not engaged yet, but I know I will probably shop for a dress when I do and if I have an engagement party or shower. The dress you found is super pretty!

greeneyedamber : I kept telling myself to use something from my cupboard, but then thought stuff it, how often in your life do you get engaged? Haha. Thank you!
