So I have really been sstruggling to find the perfect wedding present for Mr. Shef. He is an engineer and thinks everything should have a purpose… which is fine when it comes to holidays and birthdays but on our wedding day I kinda wanted something a little more meaningfull than useful. Because, if it were up to him he would be getting the gun he jokingly (or atleast I hope) assumed would have been issued to him when he got is TX license. So after LOTS of stressing and thought I think I have come up with the PERFECT gift.
As practical and many as he tries to be, there is one thing that he does that only a very small few know about. He is a poet. Not just a ‘I’m bored let me write something down that rhymes” poet but a “truely beautiful, can bring you to tears if he isn’t careful” poet. I keep telling him that he could be published… he is that good. But for him, his poetry is personal. He writes it for himself and for me. Infact, I am the only person to have heard his poems… well… ever.
So, I am getting to the point here, I decided that I wanted to publish him. Not in a “call the publisher and get a book deal” going kind of way. Instead I found a website where you can make your own book and from what I have seen they look really nice. I am going to find all the love peoms he has written and put them into a book. Just one. Just for him. His work will be published and forever imprinted on the pages of a book that will stay safely tucked away in his night stand… or whereever he wants to put it. I am excited because I know it will mean a lot to him.
What do you guys think? Is it too simple or self serving since I am the one who keeps telling him he could be published? Or do you think it is perfect considering the little I have told you about him?

Super cute idea! He’ll cherish it for a long time 🙂

Sounds perfect, SO thoughtful and very sentimental! I love the idea, especially because it’s unique just for your Fiance…no one else will have anything like it (because there’s only one!) and I bet he’ll never see it coming.
The best part of the whole idea is that you are wrapping up your “written” love so that you and your hubby-to-be will always have it to look back at. 🙂

I think that’s a wonderful, thoughtful idea. Just make sure that you don’t have to sneak into his special area in order to extract the poems.

I love it, I think it would be really meaningful to both of you. You should write a poem for the book too, about what your wedding day means to you or how much you love him. Even if you can’t write to save your life, I bet he would love it.

i love the idea too….its so personal since the 2 of you are the only ones to know about the poems and im sure it will mean a lot to him, he can have the results of seeing his work published without having to share it with the whole world. Just make sure the poems you choose are ones the ones he would like to see published lol

Oh that sounds like a wonderful gift! I’ve seen those types of online places where you can have photos published into a book,-are these the same? Are you going to have any artwork, photos or clip art added-or special fonts? It really sounds like a wonderful gift for him to treasure. (And you too).
