So I was driving home from seeing fireworks, and near a very busy intersection, I found this big girl walking fearlessly through the streets. She was not bothered at all by the cars. It’s so dark in this town that she was bound to not be seen and get hit. I jumped out and she came right into my car as happy as can be.
She has a collar from animal control with an ID number on it, so I’ll call in the morning and they should be able to find her owners. Poor thing was definitely a bit shakey, hot, and thirsty, but she’s all settled right into my apartment.
She’s a nice snuggle buddy for the night! What breed do you think she is?
Have you ever picked up any strays or lost pets?

She looks like she has shepherd or husky in her maybe? What a cutie. Good on you for helping keep her safe!

@bowsergirl: looks like an Akita to me! I was just reading how July 5th is the busiest shelter day bc so many dogs run away out of fear of the fireworks. Thanks for picking her up 🙂

@mamadingdong: She has the curly tail like an Akita, so I was thinking she may have some of that blood in her. And I’ve heard the same about July 5 – I’m sure it will be a budy shelter day! I’m glad she has a ID tag though, so hopefully she won’t be there long.
@Utopia4us: I was thinking shepherd/husky as well. She is furry! It’s 90 degrees out, so the poor girl was quite hot.

I’ve always wanted to steal rescue a stray/lost pet, but I’ve never had the guts to do it, in case the owners saw me somehow.
Good for you, her owners might miss her tonight, but they’ll be happy to get her back in the morning!

Good for you for thinking quickly and bringing him home. I once saw a Yorkie walking along the grass next to the road. I pulled over and picked him up, then drove into the nearest subdivision and knocked on some doors. No one recognized him and he was my adorable little buddy named Winston until my vet told me he is microchipped and a patient of their clinic. When his family came to pick him up, they were so tearful that I knew the dog getting loose was just an accident. He was the sweetest little dog!

What a cutie! Good for you for saving them! It’s one of my favourite things to do, but I do think once you start lost dogs tend to flock to you so be prepared to find a few more haha

Pretty girl! I always pick up stray animals and I have done so at least 3 or 4 times. In highschool I was driving home late at night and saw a young Golden Retrevier wandering in a parking lot. It was winter and insanely cold so I pulled over and called for her without a thought. Took off my coat and wrapped her up and put her in my car. She had a collar with her owner’s phone number so I was able to contact them immediately. Apparently she had gotten outside earlier that day and they had just got in from searching for her. Her family was so grateful that I stopped to pick her up!
