My venue was on Four Weddings. The coordinator said that the bride came in with less than $10,000 budget (completely doable at my venue). However with all the freebees that she recieved from businesses (DJ, uplighting, fancier and more food, flowers, etc, etc…) the total cost was more like $25,000…so that’s what the coordinator reported to Four Weddings.

ErininMD: I feel ya about how expensive Annapolis can be! When I saw our caterer quote I think I almost died…

ErininMD: My decor vendor has been on 4 Weddings multiple times. I asked them about their experience and not only are they a great husband and wife team that are very reasonable compared to other places, but they said brides on the show pressure their venue to add free stuff so the venue looks good on tv. The venues will call their vendors and add to the packages. So there is some cost not in their totals that the normal bride would have to fork over. He said that once they find out they are on the show, they always up the ante on the original contract. The bride adds more, then comes the call from the venue to add more. They want to win very badly. It seems some of these weddings wouldn’t have been so extravagant had they not been selected for the show.

The weddings always seem incredibly cheap to me, but that’s probably because I’m getting married in one of the most expensive cities in the world with no favors that get us cut price flowers or free photography etc etc. We’re doing open bar and good food, but being pretty frugal with pretty much everything else and it’ll still come in close to $40k for 100 people.
