Two Fridays ago, I was sitting on my livingroom floor with my arms stretched out behind me (kind of like the picture below, but more relaxed). When I got up, I must have pushed back too hard on my thumb because I heard a crunch. I went to bed and the next morning it was hurting so I put some ice on it. Sunday I bought an Ace bandage to keep it in place. I thought it was a sprain so I didn’t bother going to the doctor, I figured they’d just prescribe ice and ibuprofen and send me on my way.
Tuesday (a week ago) it was still hurting so I bought a thumb stabilizing brace (like below), which seems to help with limiting movement. I am able to move my thumb side to side, however, if I try to touch it to my pinky or palm, even though I can do it, it is painful. Nevermind buttoning my pants or opening a water bottle! It seems like it is the lower knuckle, closest to my palm. Darling Husband thought I was being a baby at first, but now he thinks I may have fractured it.
My question is–it’s been a week and a half since I injured it. Should I just ride it out and see if it heals itself? Should I go to the doctor even though it’s been this long? I’ve never broken or sprained anything so I’m not sure how this should feel or what the healing period is!
Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks Bees!
