…meanwhile, in my home state of Ohio, a teacher was recently fired at a Catholic school receiving state funding for being gay. Booooo.

The next time someone brings up a religious argument against equal marriage rights, I think I’ll say “France is something like 80% Catholic, and they’ve been able to accept that you can’t use your religion to negate civil rights!”

@anemonie: Sidenote: most French citizens may identify as Catholic, but church attendance rates are low, and the government is so secular that they banned religious accessories in public schools (although the latter is more of a dig at their Muslim minority).

And now apparently a marriage equality bill passed the Rhode Island Senate and is its on the way to the House?
